    i wonder,
why do we call the volcano 'restive', when it is anything but resting?

    res·tive
    /ˈrestiv/
    Learn to pronounce
    adjective
(of a person) unable to keep still or silent and becoming increasingly difficult to control, especially because of impatience, dissatisfaction, or boredom.
"the crowd had been waiting for hours and many were becoming restive"

i agree with the dictionary. but that is because i already know the definition of the word, thanks to my english teacher.

but anyone who meets the word 'restive' for the first time, will probably logically equate it with "rest" and not un-rest.

    as analogy,
consider the words 'combative' and 'argumentative'.
truly, the english language is a difficult language to master.
    heh heh.

Same here, I always though that the proper term for a volcano's increased activity is restless, yun pala restive.

Restless/restive can be used, its a literary choice by whoever wrote the bulletin. There is a Filipino version for those who are not familiar with English.

    i will confess,
the going is much more slower for me, when i read scientific text in tagalog.
i grew up in a local atmosphere, where penalties are imposed when one gets caught speaking in tagalog within the four walls of the school.
family car namin at that time, was american metal Chevrolet in-line six..
    OT.
