Taal lake will play a big role in the big boom....

One of the main concerns with Taal is the abundant water in its two lakes and the extensive underground hydrothermal system the magma and lava could potentially interact with. “When water comes into contact with something hot, it flashes into steam. Water turning into steam is an incredibly energetic change” that causes it to expand by a factor of eight, Gregg says. If that change happens in an underground hydrothermal system, the steam can build up until it explodes. “That’s the scary part,” Johnston says. The initial stages of Taal’s current eruption were, in fact, such steam-driven, or phreatic, ones, and they sent ash high into the sky.

The current eruption also carries a tsunami risk because of the lake surrounding it. If part of the volcano’s flank collapses into the lake, it could trigger such a wave. (A similar event happened in late 2018 at Anak Krakatau in Indonesia, killing more than 400 people, though it was bigger than what Taal could likely generate.) Tsunamis can also be triggered by large, superheated currents of volcanic gas, ash and other debris—called pyroclastic flows—or by mudflows caused as volcanic ash mixes with abundant water. Both of these occurrences can be devastating in their own right, because they can hurtle down slopes much more quickly than the lava people tend to associate with volcanoes.

Sharing some random thoughts on this taal aftermath.

Kawawa talaga lahat ng tao whose lives were disrupted by taal.

I can see the people in masks trying to go on with their lives as if everything were back to normal.

    But it's a new "normal"

Yung dust na yan, kapit sa buong katawan, sa buhok, and I'm sure kahit naka mask ka pa, may na-i-inhale pa rin.

It's not just outside, but that dust will also find its way sa loob ng bahay.

Sa dami ngayon ng volcanic ash and dust doon, people piled it sa tabi lang ng kalye, waiting for it to be collected.

Pero hangga't andun lang yun ash/dust, hihipan lang din ng hangin back into the environment.

LGU's should mobilize fast to clear it.

But knowing LGU's usad pagong yan, dahil na rin baka may ibang priorities (evac centers).

And this is just in laguna, paano pa yong nasa batangas?

It just breaks my heart, and we should not be fast to judge and say ambilis lang naman mag evacuate... just leave.

We should have more empathy, lalo na doon sa walang resources to move out permanently and start all over again so fast.

    Yung wala ng family.

Yung walang pera or kulang ang pera.

Peoples' live (and dreams) have been disrupted and shattered and the way things stand, no one knows for sure for how long it will be before taal will be back to normal.

Pag uwi ko nga, kapal ng ash covering the car, and I was just there for a few hours.

And I really had to take a bath kaagad kasi feeling ko ang lagkit-lagkit ko.

True Sir Leon.. Nakakaiyak nga kung mag focus sa worries and all..

Those guarding Agoncilio were given order to flee after Taal was reported to show signs of renewed activity... hope its a false alarm.

Residents in Agoncillo say the eruption either caused the lake water to recede or ash extended the shoreline in Lake Taal. The water used to reach up to the banana plant in this picture. | via

    Cosplay in evac centers.

People using humor as a coping mechanism.

Maganda nga yan, to be optimistic pa rin despite the hardships.

Maka adapt agad lahat ng affected and ma lessen yung trauma.

Hoping and praying also that things will not worsen.

Yes Sir Leon [emoji4] Apir tayo dyan!!
Like maayos sa evacuation and maayos yung pag handle ng LGUs and mga police atbp.

Kaya nga sinasabi ko na from the start is for the people of Batangas to change their views. Stop thinking muna about their lives.

The lake wants them to think of something higher. They are the KEY to this. They can SAVE all of us. Kasi Manilenos are not truly sympathetic pa din kasi , we do not experience the tragedy that they are feeling.

The lake has been providing them all these years , enriching them. Now the threat is 20km radius na. The more the lake dries up, the blast radius increases

Eh hinde eh , ang thinkiing nila is kelan ba matatapos to, so that we can go back to normal.

There is no normal. They or even we , in Manila, are at the face of annihilation.

The only WAY we could STOP this is we could think COLLECTIVELY that we submit ourselves to the power of the Lake. The Lake also represents GOD.

We have been too selfish and too materialistic to think that what we enjoyed is A given RIGHT.

When Pinatubo struck, hinde lang sinabi sa mga Pinioy noon, and I read it in an American Scientific artcile somewhere, gumalaw ang axis ng mundo. That was how powerful the 500 year old dormant volcano was. It scared the hell out of even the mighty USA and Europe.

Now, the US is closely monitoring Taal, because they have the same one in their backyard, the Yellowstone supervolcano, than can wipe out the entire California region

Hinde na to biro. Science will not help us, it’s up to us as living creatures to somehow appease the lake or nature for that matter.

    We are all narcissists uls.

I recently discovered this na. ItÂ’s innate in all of us in the form of self-preservation and self.grandeur.

For example, if a celebrity prays for the people of Batangas. ThatÂ’s narcicism , coz he/she knows on the back of his/head that more followers will follow his/her social media account coz that god-like. Celebrities dress like gods and goddesses di ba?

There are different levels of narcissism.

Eto pa, yun Tolentino and his wife. They are trying to portray that Tagaytay is safe and hence should open up soon, disregarding the safety of employees and tourists alike.

Alam nyo kumbakit, coz after this crisis, tagaytay will be at the forefront of the rebuilding process. Sikat ang tagaytay, sikat sila as Kings and Queens of Batangas.

    ——

Kung ako lang eh, if I will have to advice the government how to handle this.

First I will instruct the security forces to move to the 20kn radius perimeter line. Anyone, who wants to go back to their homes and livelihood then go inside the 20km radius.

If the volcano, explodes, then we have our sacrifice. The volcano is satisfied, manila is saved.

Philvocs ka na? 20kms na? Eh yun 14 kms nga sinobrahan pa nila yun eh.
