    combination of both

you've got to know what you want in order to have a guide

then, along the way you will need to take calculated risks. . .you can't steal 2nd base by keeping your foot on first

The challenge of success is how you maintain and control it

Personally, I'm not a fan of giving inheritance to the kids. Even criticized my father for that (baliktad nga eh ). I think it's best to give them enough money to do what what they want without being excessive. Kung excessive, magiging lazy lang yan eh. Before you know it, mga great-great-great grandchildren mo nasa streets na. Monetary discipline plays a huge role in these situations.

For the thread, risk taking takes my vote. I've seen friends who were lured on the easy-money MLM schemes only to emerge "brainwashed" that the best way for financial success is to franchise. (I later brainwashed them to join me on entrepreneurship). The definition of risk-taking is not necessarily being reckless. Sometimes importante yun merong steady income stream (especially if you're supporting your family), but if there's a situation that you researched thoroughly and you know it'll work, do you have the guts to leave the paycheck and take the uncertainty?

    what is your take..
for me, both planning and taking risk/chances without fear of losing, plus preparation, and of course, luck is a big factor, plus you must also be industrious and patient.

it appearing that most of the commentators here are from the business world, well, the title is "success in life", and for me, it is also achieving something that you really want like your profession, and you're happy with it. Further, the success of a person is not only for himself but that of his children, if he's able to raise his children diligently and they also become successful like him, then, that is the real success in life.

“I’m trying to start another company. The first one failed. I tried to get a regular job for awhile but I just couldn’t do it. There are a lot of downsides to being an entrepreneur. No boss to ask for help. No regular paycheck. My girlfriend and I have put a lot of our plans on hold. But at least I’m in control. I’m free. I own the value of my work. At my old job it was the same thing over and over. Same office. Same people. Even if you get a promotion, it’s just a different set of responsibilities. A different brand next to your name on LinkedIn. Nothing meaningful has changed. The only thing that’s changed is how people see you. And what is that worth? When I was in college I met all these people with dreams of starting NGO’s and changing the world. But then they had kids, and got a new condo, and a new car, and they got stuck. Everyone keeps saying: ‘one day, one day.’ But you ride the metro in the morning and you see all these people who’ve been working the same job for twenty years. They look empty almost. We all know that nothing takes eight hours to do everyday. But that’s the culture. We’re stuck in that structure. We’re stuck in meetings. Or killing time on our phones. Just waiting for the weekend. And what’s the point of it all? To buy new things. To seem important. I just can’t do it. I have to find a way out.”

    Quarter-Life Crisis?
Pero success in life depends on the person tsaka sa goal nya sa life.. Kung saan sya makakaramdam ng fulfillment and happiness.. We cannot generalize success, it's personal..
Sample: Successful sya kasi sikat yan. It's the speaker's definition of success but it does not mean that the subject feels the same way.. What if for the subject ang pagiging sikat ay burden sa kanya because he/she cannot go to places without a plan or nakaka pressure magkamali kasi ma tag agad as failure..

Thanks for making it clear.. Oo nga yun yung sinabi niya sa first part..

My friend shifts on being entrepreneur.. Hehehe..

kasi pag may sarili kang business (lalo when it's new) parang baby mo yan

you can spend 12 or 14 hours a day on your new business ok lang kasi sayo yan eh

True... Kaya natutuwa din ako sa friend ko.. Mas lumabas ang better version niya.. At unlike before mas lumawak ang pang unawa nya in general..
In my case, employment works (hate ko lang weekend work hahahaha).

btw the guy is also saying people start out idealistic wanna make a difference wanna change the world

then when you buy a house and a car you're no longer free to do what you want coz you need to pay off those things so you need to work at a job you hate
