tayo pa.hehe.. HOSPITABLE diba.. lalo na sa chics.hahaha
hehehe I still am.....just proud but not too proud....there's a difference in that. although marami rin talaga yung 'rotten guavas in a bunch", just like what baiskee's wife just experienced, ewan ko nga ba kung bakit sila ganon, but I tried to do it right by starting by myself. Ang nakaka-asar lang eh pag minsan eh mapapaaway pa ako by just doing it the right way. (Example: don lang sa simple queing at bus stops, everybody do it maging British, American, Local HK ppl, then yung ibang pinoy kapag nalamang pilipino ka e biglang sisingit sa harapan mo tapos me kasama pa na iba... imagine the image we are projecting being this way) Maybe some Pinoys who will read this will just say, 'Yan ang Pinoy, mautak' or 'Pinoy yan eh, di nila kaya yon' or the likes....yan ang sinasabi kong 'too proud pinoys' na kahit mali na sa normal na kalakaran ang ginagawa eh nakukuha pa ring i-justify yung action dahil nga sa pinoy sya eh....para bang proud pa na me ginawa syang mali... ooops...mahaba na...
anyway I hope my post can make sense in some reader here....

exemption: sports/ tourism
basta... yung ngayon. "MODERN FILIPINO".
tu ne cede malis sed contra audentior ito - yield not to misfortunes, but advance all the more boldly against them
that quote sums it all up.
even with all the not so good things happening we just have to hope for the best and work hard for it.
finger-pointing will do us no good.
noypi! it is sad that we tend to forget being patriotic. nakalimutan na nga nang karamihan ang buy filipino policy.
buy filipino policy? I don't think so. Do you want to feed all that red stained longanisa, corned beef, and red hotdog filled with nitrates to your love ones? Unti unti mong nilalason ang pamilya mo for the sake of "buy pinoy policy". When I buy stuff, I buy what's best and safest for me and my family, regardless of who makes it.
There's blind loyalty and there's common sense.
here's a primer on nitrites... taken from themeatman.comOriginally posted by jolog1

Nitrite has been used as a food preservative and anti-botulinal agent for decades. It has also been a subject of controversy since the 1970s, when some of its reaction-products (i.e., nitrosamines) were associated with cancer in laboratory animals. However, following a 1981 review of all scientific data on nitrite, the National Academy of Sciences/ National Research Council indicated that 1) nitrite does not directly act as a carcinogen in animals 2) nitrate, converted to nitrite in the human body, is neither carcinogenic nor mutagenic and 3) nitrite-preserved or nitrate-containing foods account for only a very small proportion of the human body's total exposure to nitrosamines. Today, it is clear that the benefits of nitrite in cured foods far outweigh any potential risks.
=====
The Institute of Food Technologists has reviewed the scientific issues concerning nitrite and concluded that:
Nitrite is critical to the safety of cured foods. It prevents the outgrowth of C botulinum spores;
Nitrite is responsible for the characteristic flavor and pink color of cured meats;
Foods containing added nitrite or naturally-occurring nitrate do not cause human cancers;
Nitrite levels in U.S. cured foods are currently as low as possible and strictly regulated.

You're right Van. I mean who are we kidding here? We all say "buy pinoy" to get pogi points pero does anyone here really go out of their way just to pick pinoy products over anything else? I've been hanging around here for many months now and I've gotten to know a lot of you. We all talk about foreign cars, foreign parts, foreign watches, foreign movies, foreign music, foreign actors, foreign restaurants, foreign shoes, even kung nag-accessorize kayo puro foreign din naman. What about toothpaste brand? Ready to give up all Nestle products?
Meron akong 2 Standard airpot, sira wala pang 5 months.

from the outside (the US) looking in, i think Filipinos are well respected. meron tayong mga masasamang ugali, at ibang katawa-tawang ugali, but on the whole we are respected for being hard working, uncomplaining, willing to do the work that other (spoiled and lazy) people won't.
bihira ang pinoy na bum or pinoy on welfare. we help each other and take care of our families. culturally, we value doing well in school and/or work, and take pride in what we do (even though medyo mayabang tayo when we succeed).
what's not to respect about all that? sure, our politicians are mostly idiots, the government does some stupid things, and the country is embarrassingly poor. but still i believe there is plenty to be proud of.
forget that crap about renowned inventors, boxers, scientists, billiards players etc etc. the real pride of the philippines comes from the hardworking OFW's, business owners, and employees that get no press but are successful in every sense of the word (do you think all the global call centers are in Manila only because everyone speaks english? it's far more than that!)
ok, off my soapbox now![]()
