I would prefer PING LACSON... GMA is supposed to be an economist.. but for 4 years... what did she do?
Mas madami pa yun scandal at kurakot ng pamilya niya kaysa sa output niya.![]()

The Cory, FVR & Erap administration were only spared since we are under the IMF program then (which started during Marcos' term). This has lead to a FALSE sense that it was just "business as usual" even when all hell broke out. Now that we are out of the said program (and IMF is not anymore pumping borrowed money to us), we are now feeling the effects of those borrowed money. The Arroyo regime is making the most debt payments in Philippine history – the P470 billion paid in 2003 was equivalent to 75% of NG revenue and 11% of GDP, the P542 billion payments in 2004 is equivalent to 80% of NG revenue, and the P695 billion in 2005 is equivalent to 92% of NG revenue.
That is the problem!!! Concentrating on the present scenario rather than the long term solution.Originally Posted by baiskee
Our country's problem is rooted also in the implemented EOI (export oriented industry) practice by Marcos during the 1970s and is still being continued to be implemented today. In fact, we are putting ourselves at the mercy of foreign markets (which is slowly shifting to China and other countries) with this neoliberal approach.
We are just using the Arroyo issues as a scapegoat to the bigger problem which is an overhaul of our economy as outlined in her Strong Republic vision. The Strong Republic vision will not anymore rely on the EOI which has been in practice since the 70s and has failed. Instead, it is aimed at self-sufficiency, agriculture & small enterprise growth. We are all dreaming of being an EOI like Japan, Korea, Singapore but our conditions do not permit that.
As the saying goes... the Filipino doesn't want to take the bitter pill.
Now somebody is talking sense ,for the first time!! Nakakasawa na rin yong tsiwsmis.
nope! all of these LRT/ MRT and others were a blueprint of marcos' projects...Originally Posted by mazdamazda

filipinos need some RESULT from our government NOW!
granted that it was Macoy's blueprint... but was those necessary in the first place? was the borrowing of BILLIONS OF DOLLARS worth it?Originally Posted by baiskee
as you said it... gutom na ang Pilipino. those billions of dollars should have been spent FIRST on making our country self-sufficient in terms of agriculture & basic goods. the other conveniences can follow later.
look at other developed countries... almost all of them is self-sufficient in terms of their staple food. what we export to them are just the "extras" like fruits. if you also look at the development of their countries... it took them hundreds of years to be industrialized!
if you haven't noticed... the BOT scheme is now being heavily favored to bankroll new infra projects (like the NLEX rehab, LRT 2 & 3, North Rail, NLEE, SLEX rehab). this is to minimize the borrowings of the nat'l gov't and to instead rely on the private sector's discipline & business-savvy to pull it all off.
btw... what kind of "instant result" are you talking about? AFAIK, there is no shortcut to economic prosperity. it took the members of the G7 (USA, UK, France, etc) a few century or so to get to their status right now.
Originally Posted by IceColdBeer

No, Filipinos should know by now that they cannot rely their entire future on the government. Kahit sinong presidente ang iupo mo sa palasyo, solutions will not come overnight. Layers upon layers of poor governance will have to be undone before the desired results are achieved. And then sustaining those results for the long term is also another story. So what will the Filipino people do with their lives in the interim? Demand more from the government while refusing to determine their future for themselves? If things were indeed so bad, these businesses would have folded years ago.Originally Posted by baiskee
Kailangang baguhin ang Pilipino more than the government, in the sense na hindi na dapat magpabola ang mga mamamayan sa mga pulitiko. We have such a short memory after 1986, kaya hindi tayo tinatantanan ng mga problema. If we were to use People Power against the Arroyo administration today, that would be the second time (after Erap) that we have proven to ourselves and the world that we never learned from our mistakes.

all we need to do is face the future...wala ng sisihan. the problems are there...tayo na lang hinihintay kung pano natin maaayos.
i don't really understand that people keep on blaming the past leaders... think our future... our childrens' future. kung di ko man maramdaman yung pag angat ng pilipinas kahit papano ayaw ko rin problemahin ng mga anak ko kung ano pa ang pinoproblema ko.
i think you guys will agree. :D

Pardon me for saying so, but I count this as one of the worst attitudes that we as a people have. You might as well tell the Jews that 'past is past', where the Nazis are concerned. You might as well tell the comfort women that 'past is past', where the Japanese soldiers are concerned. The past may be gone, but it should by no means be forgotten. History exists not so we can merely look at it behind a glass case, but so we can continually learn from its mistakes when we have to. Ako, I will never tire of telling my children, my grandchildren and great-grandchildren about the darkness that Marcos brought to this country, and that they should always be vigilant so that such a period never occurs again.Originally Posted by baiskee

Exactly. The opposition will never win by legal means. Remember when Sammy Ong first surfaced, who was there during the press conference? Rez Cortez, a known supporter of the opposition! Doon pa lang, kitang-kita na ang motibo. And Ong himself has an ax to grind because his personal interests were not accomodated by the administration.
Kaya I'm not expecting another popular revolt anytime soon, considering the kind of people who stand to replace the current government. And quite frankly, they shouldn't even be considered as a viable alternative.
The present palace occupant have learned her lesson of not to let any people power succeed again, like sharing the loot, so any one can't point the finger because it will some way point back to them. What we have is a smart political animal trained by her father and made a monster by the arrogant elite minority who were shocked by having someone as president who is not their own kind. Its not a question of who to blame, but a look at the present reality, that crook in the palace is even bigger than erap, trying to beat FVR's record, and someone who can lie with a straight face, greed is the essence of her being. As Mr. Boo Chanco of the Star says, we are succeeding inspite of her, so she is the rock that pulls us down, the economist politician who puts her own interest first and is good at covering up her dirt. She has to go soon or we will remove her even if it means her demise. The political pot is boiling, to be cooked soon are the people in power if they don't put out the fire.
