Push Start Buttons are stupid

i watched this youtube video. somehow, he makes sense. I mean why reinvent the wheel tapos pag nag-malfunction could cost you pHp 25K++. pano pag nag-malfunction while you're in a far away place like sa isang resto stop sa Sagada?

this Push Start System is both electronic and wireless. Wifi ka nga sa bahay nag-malfunction ito pa kaya. though it's RFID, it's still an electronic circuit.

Hated that guy. He's loud and his editing skills leaves a lot to be desired.

Anyway, about keyless ignitions/push-button ignition.... I can mention a few things off the top of my head:

1. They're for convenience. The same reason why they "re-invented" the manual transmission and made an A/T. Though it does cost more to make and even more to repair, but that's the price of convenience, or more accurately, how much you will have to pay for the convenience.
2. They have gotten pretty good at making them pretty reliable. My parents have a 6-7 year old daily-driven Tucson and the push-button start have NOT failed us one single time.
3. Even physical key ignition switches fail too. Remember the GM fiasco? That was worse, with around 120-something fatalities due to a faulty ignition key switch. Millions of cars worldwide were recalled. No such scandal with push-button ignition.

It's for convenience. I don't have to look for my keys anymore, it's always in my bag.

Yup..how many times I have dropped my keys in the past and damaging the fob in the process. For women, no more panic searching inside the bag.

They can provide keyless start/stop but there should be some kind of manual override

Keyfobs for push-button cars usually have a back-up key to unlock the door, and a passive RFID chip that allows you to start the car by holding the keyfob close to the ignition button.

kaya dapat laging may distinguishing mark ang kotse lalo na sa driver side. naalala ko nuon sa manaoag pilit binubuksan ng isang buong pamilya yung gs ko e magkatabi lang naman sasakyan namin kaya dapat kita nila na yung lights ng gs nila yung umiilaw pag pindot nila ng remote. halos mabali mga door handle e. di man lang napansin na iba ang side mirror at yung kanila e puno ng sticker sa harap.

Ay kapag van laging ganun, kahit pa starex sasakyan mo tapos hiace sila, nagkakamali rin sila. Even super grandia sakanila at l300 sakin, pilit pa rin binubuksan ang l300. Hahaha

i have gone through keyless entry and iginition since 2007 with no issues. all our current cars except our spark have both keyless entry and push button (spark ev not keyless entry). i dont think this is stupid.

Yep, ganyan din instruction saken nung dealer.

To add pag nag prompt na lobat yung keyfob, palit battery na agad. May spare keyfob battery na din ako sa bag.

It's the same argument over and over again....

... when carbureted engines moved to electronic ignition then eventually to having full engine control management using ECM/PCM computers
... when A/T became the de-facto standard for many new cars
... when 'Banawe St' technicians complained about the in-cabin or car body computer that controls the door locks, cabin lights, alarm, and a host of other non-engine related functions

Sa mga tanders na ayaw ng technology, the keyless system has matured enough to be as reliable as conventional keyed-ignition. The 'cons' being brought up are either one-off freak accidents or the user is just being oblivious of the technology and simply doesn't know how the thing works or doesn't understand its limitations.
