"The NCEA results revealed that 22,267 students who belong to families with annual income below P150,000, the current po-verty threshold, are among the highest performers with very high to excellent scores (98-99+ percentile ranks)," ayon kay NETRC Director Nelia Benito.
Sinabi pa ni Benito na ibibigay sa lahat ng nag-eksamin na estudyante ang kanilang ‘certificate of rating’, "And this will give the student an accurate measure of his potential for college, technical and vocational school, or entrepreneurship."

The flipside to that story is not as encouraging:
700,000 HS studes unfit to enter college

More than half of the 1.3 million fourth-year high school students who took the National Career Assessment Examination (NCAE) in January are not prepared to enter college, the Department of Education revealed Wednesday.
Education officials said 700,000 students scored low in the general scholastic aptitude category of the exam. GSA measures the readiness of a student to enter the tertiary level.
Most of the students scored high in the technical-vocation and entrepreneurial categories.
The latest NCAE results also showed that only a small percentage of the examinees are qualified to fill executive and managerial positions. Taal National High School topped the examination followed by Ateneo de Manila University and Eastern Samar University.
A total of 1.3 million graduating high school students took the NCAE last January 17 to help students assess their career options after high school.
The NCAE results revealed that 22,267 students who belong to families with annual incomes below P150,000, the current poverty threshold, are among the highest performers in the GSA, with Very High to Excellent scores (98-99+ percentile ranks). Meanwhile, 33,444 poor students also received very high scores in the technical-vocational category.
Education Secretary Jesli Lapus earlier said the results of the test will be used primarily for career guidance.
"This is not like the old NCEE (National Career Entrance Examination) which was used solely as a basis for admission to college," he said.
"The NCAE is a guide for students, so that they will really find a proper fit for themselves when they enter the job or entrepreneurial markets," he added.
He said school guidance counselors have been trained to assist the students in interpreting their respective ratings. He added that the department is studying the possiblity of making NCAE a prerequisite for post-secondary studies by school year 2009-2010.Last edited by Bogeyman; March 21st, 2007 at 08:24 PM.

Maybe it's coz mas resource-limited lugar nila. So they value whatever blessings they get.

Although nasa estudyante at magulang pa din naman yan, IMO, students in the provinces, especially those na medyo malayo sa mga big cities, have less distractions compared to those that are studying in the big cities like MM, Cebu and the likes.
With less distraction, they have plenty of time reading lots of books, and studying more.
