Guys it is practical to use army surplus backpacks(eg ALICE, MOLLE packs) in the urban setting? Am interested in buying one for travel.

I would stick with a small backpack or maybe a laptop backpack.

I had this on both of my trips to Japan during the previous decade. But, I didn't have luggage or other bags. Everything I had was in that backpack (laptop, clothes, camera).

    I looked like a hippie.

I was already retired when I made my trips to Japan. Heck. I was already retired a few years before I joined this forum.

I didn't shave much either and I let my hair grow longer than normal. Actually, I was too lazy to go the barber. I certainly didn't look like a GI in Japan although I was definitely a foreigner.

I can tell you one thing. Those backpacks may look and feel tough. But, with prolonged use, they'll break just like anything else. Mine didn't last long enough for my PH trip (2013). I had to use a big laptop backpack for that one.

That particular backpack (on the photo) started to fray and wear thin on the bottom corners.

i was thinking that 600- or 1200-denier material would be better than what i'd find on a typical backpack.

The camo pattern is a bit over the top i guess ^_^

Maybe if a camo backpack is stained or faded with perhaps, some wear and tear, it wouldn't look so bad.You know, it looks like it's been used a lot.

I gave my uncle a lot of my surplus gear (field jackets, gortex, flop hats, etc). But, he always preferred the old worn out ones, even the ones with my sweat stains. He didn't like the ones with a brand new look.

I have a small bag with digital camo and used it for several weeks. I didn't like the feeling as it draws attention, I think. Especially in the current heightened alertsituation we're in

Please point me in the right direction on where I can find a leather case (that attaches to my belt) for my 4.5-inch multitool.

    Thanks!

*oj88 what multitool are you using. Many has proprietary leather cases and nylon ones for belt attachment. I.e. Leatherman, and Swiss Army Knives

I have a Gerber 4.5" Multi-Plier. After maybe 10 years of EDC, the nylon holster it came with is starting to tear and Velcro that hardly closes the flap securely. I want to replace it with a leather holster that has a flap that snaps closed.

I have the same Gerber sir. Standard issue yan sa isang shipping company.

Anyway kung nasira na pala yung nylon, kailangan pa sadya na yan. Any leather goods store kaya yan. Yung mga gumagawa ng sapatos at belt. Sa MCS may nakita ako sa ground floor. And I'm sure Sa Marikina marami kaya gumawa

BTW, make sure you clean and lubricate yung locking mechanism nyan. Yung isa ko nasira dahil di ko na linis at na lubricate, ayun may naputol na plastic lock. Yung sa black na plastic.

But I'm still more into Victorinox. I don't used it naman but I just like how they feel and look. In fact, I don't think I ever used it. I don't even bring it with me.

    An addiction maybe.

Royal blue rambler and green champ. Just arrived the other day.

Next the mini champ in alox and other alox models.

Bossing, are the transparent scales just as durable as the traditional plastic scales?

Does anyone have experience with 14500 batteries?

i dropped my Thorfire earlier, and the Olight 14500 battery won't charge anymore(the flashlight seems OK)...i suspect the circuitry may have been damaged by the (~2 foot) fall.

Ganun ba talaga ka sensitive yung 14500 protected batteries?
