sa tingin ko hindi yung mga insults ang nagpabago sa isip niya kundi yung mga death threats..

pero anyway, i applaud her for being mature and accepting that she was wrong and asking for forgiveness. kaya sa iba pang mga writers at journalist to be, let this be a lesson.

She's resigned, so I guess this shows a couple of things:

The blogworld and the internet as a whole has proven once again that it is a very effective vehicle for grassroots mobilization. It has now affected a person, a life, a family. Someone who was making a living. How this will affect her financial health I don't know, but I know one thing for sure, she will start watching what she says from now on. Whether the moral outrage had substance or not, it worked.

    OR

What malu wrote really did extend past the bounds of decency. She was using the imagined pedestal of her supposed social status as a means to look down her nose at her fellow filipinos. The anger and outrage directed at her was palpable, and it seems even with the bandwagon-type of "i want to throw a tomato too" backlash that came about, there just might have been a good reason for it.

    I can't decide yet...

Wala akong masamang tinapay sa mga comedians sa comedy bar but when I read her magazine column, I was actually thinking to myself that maybe this was where she started. Trying to support her studies because maybe one of her OFW parents suffered bad fate in the middle east or something so she has to fend for herself. Then she finished mass comm or journalism as a working student and became a writer after graduation

The trully well-bred will not say these things or worse get it printed in a magazine.

When all is said and done....may she forgive herself also.

Eto, scoop...re: death threats na nare-receive nya, I have it good authority na several individuals daw expressed "interest" in her, namely:
Mang Tomas, Ping-Ping, Aling Lydia & Elars. Pati na raw an unnamed individual from Cebu...hehehe

Sorry if I'm a little negative. But, I'm not the kind to gloat at someone's misfortune even if that person's at fault.

Remember that some of the replies in this thread came from the OFWs. So, you call the OFWs jokers?..............

it is difficult not to question her sincerity on her resignation esp after the "humor" and "me diva or you lack common sense" initial action. i think she resigned out of the backlash she (not her article) created. she has no choice. otherwise, her company most likely will let her go (i.e. quit so you're not fired).

there, i posted my response to the topic instead of commenting on other poster's view.

I wouldn't put words into his mouth that he didn't speak. He didn't specifically say "OFWs" or "Filipinos"... and... Jun is an overseas Filipino, too... ;)

He was commenting on the bashing done by other people here... if Malu was lambasted for insulting people without truth (and righteously so...)... then is it just and fair that people are also lambasting her without knowing her? It's one thing to say: "Mali yung ginawa niya", and another thing to call her "pig!"

And the snide remarks about her had better be jokes, I'd dread to think na seryoso ang mga yun. I share Jun's views, because I have already gotten into trouble with people I know because of the things other tsikoteers say online.

Unlike many of you, I don't hide behind a screen-name. My photos are online for people to see, and my phone number is available if anyone wants to talk to me.

There was a thread, not so long ago, where people were lambasting a person, who, in my opinion, didn't deserve to be made fun of. A relative of his approached me afterwards, very angry about what happened. (Actually, he was angry at me!)

    What did I tell him?

"Hey, it's the internet. You can't control what some of those jokers say online."

Well, actually, we talked about it. The thing is, you shouldn't take anything anyone says online seriously, but you should consider, seriously, what you yourself say.

Hindi bastos yung sinabi ni Jun. Nag-co-comment lang siya na maraming salita diyan na salita who might be caught in the same situation.

Do they really know Malu Fernandez? Are they sure she deserves such abuse? And what happens if Malu and her family get mad at them for making such comments? Would they be willing to "resign" from tsikot over such mistakes?

That's all. And that's something to think about. If the only way we can respond to insults is by insulting the person back and intimidating her like common thugs, I don't think we are acting any better than she did with that ill-informed article.
