Depends on what you need it for.

General work, the two or three "D" cell version is good. In fact the 3-cell version can double as a "night-stick" for self-defense. It is solid but not too heavy to swing around. My friend used to have a 4-cell version but I thought it was too heavy to be useful in a fight situation.

If you want portable, the ones with 2 AA batteries is nice and bright and pocketable.

The small ones that use a single AAA battery is cute but kinda useless in most situations.
