Was in Megamall earlier as well.

    Parang puro south walang kuryente.

I'd expect mas magiging problem outside of the Metro. Magpatayo ka ng sarili mong TARELCO sa bahay (amusing how one can guess the power cooperative in a place just by getting the prefix of the place then adding -RELCO)

Na-miss ko na nung isang neighbor namin, higher-up sa Meralco. Halos walang brownout sa amin or mabilis maayos pag nagka-problem. :D

I got a text from Meralco though that my area might experience a 4 hour brownout. With that, it may be possible that they are revolving the brownouts to manage the sudden power shortage. In this case, mas mataas ngayon yung power na binibili ng electric utilities as power producers will be forced to fire up their fossil-fuel, expensive to run, facilities (usually to meet "peak" demand). This may translate to a higher power bill in the future if the situation is not fixed.

It was so scary going home. No traffic lights and no street lights. Surprisingly, traffic wasn't so bad.

The other 4 na nagdown ay maliliit lang (2 plants were using gas, which were owned by the Lopez). Yun dalawa ay wala akong info.

Siguro its time na rin to do a study on a nuclear power plant.

Masuwerte kami dito sa Cubao, we weren't affected by the brownout. But while we were having lunch at 2nd's Restaurant (12nn to 2:30pm), the power went out and the place was running on standby gensets.

Grabe yung init, so we hightailed it out of there.

all those power plants supply the Luzon grid

supply is very tight... very little supply margin

when one plant goes out demand overwhelms supply

maybe they havent restored all of them yet kaya meron rotating brownout

I wonder how long it would take to have all 4 plants up and running again. Ang hirap sa areas na brownout, ang init pa naman.

Blackout Hits Manila as Six Power Plants Shut in Philippines - Bloomberg

Blackout Hits Manila as Six Power Plants Shut in Philippines
    By Clarissa Batino & Norman P. Aquino - May 8, 2013 7:39 PM GMT+0800

Manila and almost half the largest island in the Philippines suffered a blackout after six power plants shut down.

A “tripping” of transmission lines triggered failures at plants with a combined output of 3,700 megawatts, Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla told reporters today in Manila. National Grid Corp. of the Philippines, which operates the transmission lines, said it was caused by a “generation deficiency.”

The power stations, including the Sual coal plant and Ilijan gas plant managed by San Miguel Corp., supply about 45 percent of the peak-power requirements of Luzon, home to more than 44 million people. Transmission lines and power is expected to be fully restored by midnight, National Grid spokeswoman Cynthia Alabanza said today at a briefing.

About three-quarters of Luzon already has power, and electricity in 89 percent of Manila Electric’s more than 5.1 million customers had been restored, she said.

The shutdown was caused by an “external grid event,” said Julicer Alvis, a manager for the Sta. Rita and San Lorenzo plants.

Petilla ruled out sabotage and said the power outage was likely the result of transmission failures. “The likelihood of five power plants bogging down is extremely unlikely,” Petilla said. “It’s the lines that caused the brownouts.”

The blackout started at 2 p.m. and affected about 40 percent of the franchise area of Manila Electric Co. (MER), the nation’s biggest power retailer, according to spokesman Joe Zaldarriaga.

di lang 4 or 5 power plants supply the Luzon grid. it's more than that

pero, in short, even if all plants are working there's very little excess supply

pag bagsak ng isa kulang na

so to manage the situation they have to rotate where they supply power
