MANILA, Philippines - After almost 2 weeks, the largest pot in Philippine lotto history has finally been claimed.
Atty. Jose Ferdinand Roxas, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) general manager, said the P741 million 6/55 Grand Lotto prize in the November 29 draw was claimed by a 60-year-old male Balikbayan (a Filipino who resides abroad) on Thursday.
PCSO said on November 29 that a lone bettor had won the biggest jackpot in the history of Philippine lotto.
PCSO said that the winning 6-number combination was literally "lucky pick" or was randomly picked by the PCSO computer. It was bought at the Royal Duty Free Mall at the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority in Olongapo City.
The prize is tax-free and will be given in a single tranche in the form of a check, the PCSO said.
Roxas said the Balikbayan from New York confirmed that he bought the winning combination at a lotto outlet in Royal Duty Free Mall.
Earlier this week, an 82-year-old grandmother from Zambales tried to claim the prize at the PCSO headquarters in Pasay City. She failed to do so as she was unable to show the winning ticket (Read story here.)
The woman, whose name was withheld by the PCSO, claimed that the "lucky pick" combination ticket is with her grandchild.

Reports said that a 60-year-old male Balikbayan claimed the lotto jackpot around 3 p.m.
The Balikbayan from New York had also confirmed that he bought the winning ticket at a lotto outlet in Royal Duty Free Mall in Olongapo City.
The lucky bettor was accompanied by his three relatives when he claimed the prize at the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) main office at the PICC Building, CCP Complex in Pasay City.
He also requested the agency to divide the prize into two checks.
