they line up in a disciplined and orderly manner at the grocery stores, relief trucks and water deliver tankers.

It is because they are "a people" with a community mindset. They work as a community, not as individuals to achieve their goals.

It also helps that they have been prepared for such calamities for many years although the scale of this one is really beyond any expectation.

    From the news, apparently not.

    -

Don't forget... aside from the discipline and selflessness of the Japanese (contrast to the chaos in Haiti and New Orleans when similar disasters occurred)... Japan has a crapload of industrial capacity, heavy construction equipment and a well-equipped military.

Yet they're still struggling to even reach many survivors.

    -

I think the Philippines could benefit from some of Japan's experience. The harsh life that nation leads... strife, warfare, lots of natural disasters, extremes of weather, have shaped the people into fighters.

    -

"What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger..." and the Japanese are very strong because of all of this.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Yet, majority of these kinds of people are the ones who cut you off in traffic. (Notice the yellow ribbon has now become a sign to signify a d-bag driver) The ones that shove themselves anywhere in a line. The ones who spit, piss and throw trash on the streets. The ones who walk without a care in the world in the middle of a busy road despite the existence of an overpass.

Yabang (pride) Pinoy. Yep, hanggang yabang lang sila.

    ----

    Ganito lang naman yun eh.

In Japan, you can leave your stuff on a table and order food in, let's say, McDo. Dito, you do that and wala pang 2 minuto, wala na bag mo.

That's the reason why people there line up properly despite the desperate situation they're in. May "hiya" sila. Takot sila "mapahiya". That is a country where people kill themselves kapag napahiya sila ng sobra sobra.

    Dito? Daming walanghiya dito.

in a worst case scenario of a nuclear fallout

you'd expect radioactive contaminants from the atmosphere and *could* precipitate as rain

skin burn would be the result of direct exposure to a nuclear blast

but from a fallout which is hundreds of miles away, long term effects would be cancer and weaker immune system

people living in korea and eastern russia would be the most likely victims if such a scenario would occur

but I reckon it's unlikely to be that worse

The Japanese culture is different from ours. They value stoicism in the face of hardship. We Filipinos complain all the time.

Yung PUP has declared cancellation of classes until further notice dahil na kakulitan ng mga parents na praning sa scare text. Also the governor in Albay has sent goverment employees home. Whoever recieved and is forwarding the text is just as stupid as the one who created it. Deleting it would be better thing to do. Pinapakita lang ganong shallow ang IQ ng mga ibang tao...

there wont be a nuclear fallout. that only happens if nuclear stuff gets thrown in the upper atmosphere, ie the detonation of a tactical nuclear weapon. local lang ang effects pag nag-meltdown ang japan nuclear plants - just like what happened to chernobyl back in 86. a radius of 30km was evacuated around chernobyl nothing more.

so please stop this FUD talk about fallouts reaching us.

Eh yung Hiroshima at Nagasaki nuclear bombings, and the Bikini Atoll test mas malapit sa Pinas compared sa location ng Fukushima. Di naman umabot yung fallout dito.
