balewala sa mga Japs ang radiation. mahilig sila sa sushi diba? high in mercury mga isda. so meron silang force field against radiation.
instruments on aircraft carrier USS George Washington docked in Yokosuka detected low level radiation
Yokosuka is 280 kilometers from Fukushima
hmmm... must be the 2 meter exposed rods of reactor #2 yesterday coz the sea water pump broke down but they've recovered back the water level 03:00 though there was an explosion on the said reactor just today(unspecified cause, maybe hydrogen?)
or it could also be from the released steam during emergency procedures of tokai nuclear plant though it could only be radionuclide that is said to be relatively harmless

Dear Sons and Daughters, when you feel the weight of the cross, donīt lose heart. Only by passing with the cross will you arrive at victory. Seek strength is the Eucharist, for this is the only way you will be able to bear the weight of the trials that must come. Be courageous. My Son Jesus is at your side, even though you donīt see Him. I ask you to live in the Grace of My Lord. Donīt let sin lead you away from the way to holiness. Open your hearts and accept My appeals. Now is the time of Grace for all of you. I am your Mom, and I am tireless. I come from heaven because I love you and want to see you happy already here on earth and later with Me in heaven. Donīt lose heart. I will always be close to you. Forward on the way I have shown to you. Humanity has become spiritually poor because people have gotten away from their Creator. Return quickly. Death will pass through Assis and My poor children will have to weep and lament. Akita (Japan) will drink the bitter cup of pain. Bend your knees in prayer. Your victory is in The Lord. Seek Him, for He is waiting for you with open arms. This is the message I transmit to you today in the name of the Most Holy Trinity. Thank you for permitting Me to reunite you here once more. I bless you in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit. Amen. Be at Peace.

Dear Sons and Daughters, have courage, faith, and hope. Firmly believe n the power of God, and tomorrow will be better. Bend your knees in prayer. Those who remain faithful to the end will not experience defeat. I am your sorrowful Mother, and I suffer because of what is coming to you. Pay attention. Donīt cross your arms. Your time is short, and the moment has come for your conversion. Death will pass through Punta Cana and leave a great trail of destruction. Luzon will live the agony on one condemned. Pray. Pray. Pray. I donīt want to obligate you, but what I say should be taken seriously. Forward on the way I have pointed out. This is the message I transmit to you today in the name of the Most Holy Trinity. Thank you for permitting Me to reunite you here once more. I bless you in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit. Amen. Be at Peace.

Woman, 70, found alive 4 days after Japan tsunami
Eric Talmadge And Shino Yuasa, Associated Press 10 mins ago
SOMA, Japan Rescuers have found a 70-year-old woman alive four days after the disaster struck.
Osaka fire department spokesman Yuko Kotani says the woman was found inside her house that was washed away by the tsunami in northeastern Japan's Iwate prefecture. The rescuers from Osaka, in western Japan, were sent to the area for disaster relief.
Kotani said the woman was conscious but suffering from hypothermia and is being treated at a hospital. She would not give the woman's name.
Her rescue was a rare bit of news for Japanese traumatized by the disaster.
(This version corrects she was in intact house swept away, not in rubble. )
What's really shocking is how bad the problem is. They are using fire engines and the fire sprinkler system to pump corrosive sea water to cool the reactors... No.2 overheated because they simply ran out of fuel to run the pumps.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-12737508
The fuel rod exposure at Fukushima Daiichi number 2 reactor is potentially the most serious event so far at the plant.
A local government official confirmed the fuel rods were at one point largely, if not totally exposed; but we do not know for how long.
Without coolant around the rods, temperatures can rise to levels hot enough to melt metallic components over a prolonged period.
This opens the possibility of a serious meltdown - where molten, highly radioactive material from the reactor core falls through the floor of the containment vessel and into the ground underneath.
However, engineers appear to have restored some water flow into the reactor vessel and if they are successful, temperatures will begin to fall again rapidly.
What the incident illustrates is the ad-hoc nature of the operation being mounted at Fukushima.
An official with the Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco), which runs the site, said seawater was being pumped in both by fire engines and via the system installed to extinguish fires in the power station's turbine hall.
He told BBC News that the use of this methodology had never been foreseen - it had been invented by the team on the ground at Fukushima.
Even the mere use of seawater in this way is an extraordinary step to take.
According to the main Japanese news agency Kyodo, the rods were exposed when the flow of seawater into reactor number 2 stopped simply because a fire pump ran out of fuel.
With the entire region of Honshu island reportedly low on fuel and other vital supplies, a key question is whether plans are in place to keep the power station supplied with diesel.
The chain of failures illustrates the capacity of events such as this massive earthquake and tsunami to overwhelm systems that are designed to be "redundant" - to have more than one means of doing the same thing.
The earthquake caused Fukushima Daiichi and other power stations to shut down - taking away the electricity driving the reactors' cooling systems.
Back-up was supposed to come from diesel generators.
They cut in - but then cut out again after about an hour, probably due to being overwhelmed by water from the tsunami, although Tepco has not confirmed this.
The diesels themselves were backed up further by batteries, but these were designed to function only for eight hours.
When they ran out, nothing else was available.
Reports say that five fire pumps were then deployed to provide water, but that the explosions in buildings 1 and 3 knocked four of them out of action.
Supporters of nuclear power will point to the fact that so far casualties number just a few, that engineers have so far - however desperately - been able to confine the problem, and that far fewer people die each year from nuclear accidents than in coal-mining.

pano pag na-expose ang japanese ocean sa radiation? will that mean radioactive japanese fishes? so pano na ang sushi from Japan, will you eat it?
update:
reactor #5 and #6 are reported to have low water level for cooling
reactor #4 caught fire after hydrogen explosion
hmmm... tama prediction na most of the danger is from hydrogen embrittlement
this is the drawback of pumping large amounts of sea water which is corrosive to metal
but the trade off is absorbing more heat per volume
the metal rusts thus giving off hydrogen which causes cracks to some chambers
the reactors per se have shutdown
the only problem left is releasing the decay heat so don't be surprised if radiation can be detected since they will be carried off from venting steam but they're relatively harmless radionuclides
people should start worrying if strontium-89 and strontium-90 are detected which is unlikely in a reactor that already has shut down
update 2:
wind direction in japan is currently southward which explains why radiation was detected in tokyo

Some airlines are cancelling flights to Narita due to the nuclear plume. US Federal Aviation Administration consider diverting flights away from Tokyo. Does PAL have the capacity to decontaminate their planes?

Airlines start cancelling flights to Tokyo
By Pilita Clark in London
Published: March 15 2011 11:48 | Last updated: March 15 2011 11:48
Lufthansa, Europe’s biggest airline group by revenues, has cancelled flights to Tokyo’s main international airport of Narita as Japan’s nuclear crisis deepens.
The German flag carrier, which has already been screening aircraft returning from Japan for radioactivity, said that from Tuesday it would fly to Osaka and Nagoya but stop flying to Narita for what it said were operational reasons.
However, an expert close to the situation told the Financial Times that the main reason was that the airline did not wish to fly crew or passengers into what looked like an increasingly risky area.
Lufthansa said no signs of radioactivity had been detected on its jets.
Air China also cancelled flights to and from Tokyo on Tuesday, according to its website, as did Taiwan’s Eva Air.
In Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific has started offering a “special one-way economy class fare to Hong Kong” for Y60,200 ($740) from both Narita and Haneda airports in Tokyo, as well as Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Sapporo. Like many airlines in the region, Cathay has had a large number of calls from passengers trying to change their bookings to Japan.
Both Lufthansa and Air France had already stopped flying directly to Tokyo and were stopping over in Seoul, a move that means aircraft and crews do not have to stay in the Japanese capital overnight.
