hmm, for me, calling someone Jap isn't racist; calling someone sakang or yellow b*st*rd, now that's racist

^this is one of the fiipinos problems, madaling magpatawad and makalimot. (i.e. Marcos) The past maybe the past, but if you forget your own history, your bound to just repeat the same mistakes. I say forgive, but never forget.Originally Posted by mazdamazda
Yes, they should apologize. It may not improve the lives of the filipinos, but for them to just show humility is enough. They are not better than anyone else.Originally Posted by mazdamazda

Calling anyone a derogatory term, may intention man o hindi is still a derogatory term. I dont think i'm being racial if i say "what up Nigga", but truth of the matter is, it is still a derogatory term. i just like saying it, lol. (just not to an "african-american" dude. heheheOriginally Posted by badkuk

hmm, that's one of the more difficult things with slurs imho, what one considers harmless could very easily be considered racist by someone else. it also depends on who said it -- ung N word madalas banggitin ng blacks mismo, but i doubt if they get accused of being racist. but if anyone from other races uses that term....lagot!
same thing for tsinoys/chinese i guess: some people think it's real funny to "mimick" how chinese speak tagalog, pero ako hindi ako natatawa -- lalo't kung mismong chinese/asian ang gumagawa. i guess relative din ung what's considered racist or not.
 Too true... try calling an old Chinese or Korean "Japanese" sometime... they'll kick your butt.
Sorry for going a little too far OT, there... but as a note:Originally Posted by M54 Powered
Yes, Pearl Harbor was atrocious, but far from the most atrocious act committed by the Imperial Japanese at the time.
Fact is, the bombing raids carried out on industrial targets differed very much from the Tokyo Fire Raids and the nuclear strikes in that the latter intentionally targetted civilians. Yes, it was a very different war back then, when civilian manpower and human resources were considered a valid target for destruction, but with Japan on its knees at the time and just about ready to sue for peace, an atomic attack was unnecessary... the second was just overkill.
Just personal opinion mind you, and the US has more than made up for it to the Japanese by helping them rebuild and by providing them military aid (how healthy would Japan's economy be, I wonder, if they had to maintain their own army in this day and age?)... it just sucks that the other issue, the concentration camps, took so long for them to admit (it still isn't in their history books, despite happening on American soil) and even longer for reparations to come... they came decades later, when most of those affected were dead.
It's a sensitive issue, because racism was used as a weapon by the US Government, to whip up an anti-Jap frenzy on the homeland in support of the war. Would've been different if they'd locked up Italians and Germans, too... but they didn't. Heck, my Grandfather on that side was a German, and he spent the war serving in the USAF in the Pacific. Mind-boggling.
As for atrocities committed to our people by others... best not to take it personally... history is history... don't forget, yes, but don't hold what someone's ancestors did to yours against people who had nothing to do with it.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
Before: Nan diyan na mga Hapon DAPA!!!!

Thats why we have to work hard so we wont be drag into them.
We can start by not throwing garbage in our street
Sir niky, sabi ng Discovery (and I believe it, too) the Atomic Bombs saved an estimated 100-300k American lives. The Japanese were ready to fight to the last... witness Iwo Jima and the civilian suicides on the outlying islands.
And yes, it really sucks about the Japanese internment as well as the Balangiga bells.
Sir max, it wasn't just their war... if you look at the plan for the "Greater East Asia
Co-Prosperity Sphere" kasama tayo and all the Southeast Asian lands including Australia. For example, Macau was Portuguese... now what would the Japanese have against the Portuguese? They took it anyway.
A lot of Americans may be a-holes (think Stonehill), but let's not belittle the memory of those who died here, too. You would be surprised (I was) at how many Congressional Medals of Honor were awarded to the war dead as recorded sa American Cemetery sa Fort B. AFAIK, that medal is no joke.
ano ulit ang topic? nakalimutan ko na dahil sa OT posts :evillaugh
waps din is derogatory term sa italian.
flagg, according to the DSC kaya inalis si Gen.

Sir karding, di naman me pro-nuke. Sinasabi ko lang na effective weapon yun in that particular situation. Wala naman ibang war na naging ganun situation uli e. Korea... nope, useless dun mag-nuke kasi no strategic value (the industrial base was China and USSR)... same with Vietnam, Grenada, Panama, Bosnia, Somalia, Afghanistan and Iraq. Kung gusto ni MacArthur gumamit ng nuke dun sa Korea... tama lang tinanggal sya, that would have been one uselessly crazy idea.
Ehehe sobrang OT na. Wag nalang gamitin Jap. Derogatory e.
flagg, I wasnt implying that you're pro-nuke. What I previously said was just an addition to your postI was just surprised that Gen. Mac was fired due to nuke but not many people know the reason why he was fired.
ang naririnig ko lang na gumagamit ng JAP eh yung matatandang caucasian WW veterans, hehehe. At galit na galit sila up until now sa MITSUBISHI![]()
OT post, pero just to clarify the McArthur issue...
afaik, MacArthur was proposing to do a large nuke strike on north korea and parts of china -- about 50 nukes ata ang involved. He saw communism as the next big threat, and he wasn't exactly happy about China sending "human waves" to support North Korea.
Kung natuloy nga ung plano niya,it would have been world war 3 -- a nuclear war at that. That was when Truman, who was never a fan of MacArthur, said enough is enough.
i just gave a "slur words" lesson to my dad, kasi he's a bit ignorant when it comes to such words. he was sitting in front of our house when an indian with a turban walked by. he blurted out "i didn't know you had towelheads in your neighborhood". buti na lang di malakas pagkasabi nya.![]()
