if I can do one thing... design of solar panels that cleanly & efficiently converts solar energy to electrical power, a design that ANYONE can make using cheaply available materials and processes. Efficiency of more than 70% or 80% of converting solar to electrical power means it converts a wide spectrum of light (visible and non-visible) into electricity. (Current expensive high efficiency solar cells convert less than 20%).

If we can do this, we can make everything cheaper too. Transportation will become solar powered. Solar cars & trucks would become feasible and even cheap to use. No need for costly fuel burning engines when electric motors will do the same job with even less maintenance. Even motorcycles & scooters can be pure electric simply by plugging in to public charging stations at their destinations.

Even solar powered high speed "walk-a-lators" for the ordinary pedestrians who prefer to "walk" to their destinations. Oil will become less of a fuel and more of a lubricant only.

Homes can be unplugged from electrical grids for most purposes and rely on power stations for peak demands only. Even those power stations do not need to burn oil or coal or even nuclear power and only need a big array of these solar panels. Imagine a city without those ugly powerlines.

Even earth to space rockets might become obsolete or simply much smaller if we can harness ground based lasers to produce high energy plasma at the base of "spaceships" since most of the fuel is used to escape the planet's gravity well. Imagine, going to space on the same fare as riding the Concorde? And even space stations will benefit since they will not need such a big array of solar panels to provide sufficient power. All they would need is to coat the external skin with this solar panel material.

come to think of it, if this will be restricted to one state wouldn't it amount to socialism or communism? everybody is equal except of course the government.
