The pains comes when the stone leaves the kidney and enters the tube that lead to whatever women use to pee. Once it passes through, the pain dissipates until the next stone enters the tube.
I asked my uncle what he did when passing a stone. He would walk around the house, drinking a lot of water. The pain would subside after maybe an hour until the next one. There's a whole list of foods he must avoid or cut down on to minimize the formation of the stones. If you like chocolates, say goodbye. It's one of the causes of kidney stones.
