CEBU CITY -- Blame it all on TV host Willie Revillame.
Media reports that Revillame got a “hot” Ferrari sports car from Toledo City have put a spotlight on the glaringly unusual increase in the registration of motor vehicles in the local branch of the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
It was as if large numbers of Toledo residents had decided to buy cars en masse in 2007.
Teofilo Guadiz Jr., head of the LTO investigation, security and law enforcement staff, reported Thursday “abnormalities” following the latest Revillame caper.
An audit investigation conducted in Toledo City last month showed that only two vehicles, both trucks, were registered there in 2006, Guadiz said.
‘Statistically improbable’
But from January to October 2007, the number of registered vehicles rose to 3,906, he said.
Guadiz said the increase was “statistically improbable” because the normal increase is from 10 percent to 15 percent.
“For now, we have evidence to prove that there are some abnormalities because normally you don’t increase your registration by more than 100 percent,” he pointed out.
Guadiz said he was sent here by Transportation and Communications Secretary Leandro Mendoza to conduct an investigation and submit a report in five days.
Based on the audit investigation, Guadiz said, the vehicles registered included 895 cars, 612 sports utility vehicles, 679 Asian utility vehicles, 293 trucks, 1,420 pickups and seven trailers.
Undervalued, under-declared
The initial results of the probe showed that many of the certificates of payment of the vehicles registered in Toledo City indicated that the vehicles were undervalued and under-declared, Guadiz said.
Raul Aguilos, LTO regional director, said that the office would compel the owners of these vehicles to pay the correct taxes when they renew their registrations.
Aguilos said he also would institute a revamp of personnel to help cleanse the LTO of allegations of questionable transactions that have given Toledo a reputation as a new smuggling haven in the country.

Kanina nga sa Wowowee pag pasok nya sa opening number nya, naka jacket pa ng Ferrari tapos merong hatak hatak na small Ferrari car... Then he said, "Hindi nga akin yun eh!" sabay patawa sa audience!
Hay naku, kawawang Mr. Revillame, hindi na natapos ang mga kontrobersiyang pinapasok nya.... Talagang kakambal na ata nya ang "malas"Last edited by LadyRider; January 11th, 2008 at 11:35 PM.

January 12th, 2008 12:43 AM #47The PASG made a 20+ days of surveilance on Menyek driving the Ferrari and park it sa ABS-CBN parking area everytime he goes to work then telling he is not the owner of the car? EO 156 bans on importation of used motor vehicles and EO 164 excemption to it with proper/complete/original documents...
A salute to them [PASG] for doing its job...'di bale nang ningas-cugon basta
