Anyone got victimized of credit card scam/identity theft?

This morning my mom received her statement of account. She has a BDO credit card. She got shocked she was billed worth 70k of purchase.

She called the bank and cancelled her card. Under investigation pa, one thing for sure we told her na don't pay.

Ano ba procedure pag ganyan? Will it give her a bad record pag hindi binayadan? Can bank identify immediately if all the transactions are fraudulent?

Before i don't believe sa ganyan, totoo pala. Katakot. Buti the thief didn't maxed out her limit. Maybe they got the card details and made a new card?

Sa mga CC users dyan ingat ingat.

usually they should be able to tell if a transaction if fraudulent, like unusually large transaction amount or unusual location of the transaction. May fraud team ang mga banks to check it.

Nasa baguio kami nun at ginamit namin yung cc.
After that, she was issued a new card tapos the company guided us what to do afterwards.

Yep banks naman are reasonable kung may evidence of fraud. Before I flew home from another country I used my company CC to pay for lunch at the airport. When my bill arrived na double swipe pala. I filled out a dispute form and the charges were reversed in a few days.

Informed the bank and na-reverse naman lahat ng fraudulent transactions.

there are several ways para ma "hack" ang card information mo

    nfc technology..
have not seen this in person thou,,

on way or the other na capture ung card details mo
    cc number exp and cvv..
tapos nag generate ng new card or ginamit sa online purchase..

normally me fraud dept ung banko, peor not sure dito sa pinas kung anu ruling nila..

    pero for one..wag mo bayaran..

NFC technology is not yet implemented sa karamihan ng cards, ang meron lang nito ay yung may RFID na ang card mo. Kahit atm cards wala pa nung dual security system na uses both NFC and magnetic stripe.

    This is not true.
Ang credit cards lang dito ay either magnetic strip or EMV chip that will both require a reader to get the details.

What you should always be aware is kung gano katagal ibalik ang card nyo kapag kinuha na ng waiter.
May kilala ako sobrang tagal bago ibinalik yung card nya sa isang resto. He found out paglabas ng kanyang bill, pinang grocery sa Landmark.

This is why I'm not a fan of NFC.

Their system is able to detect highly suspect buying patterns and decline the transaction if it goes beyond the threshold variance. Quite expensive and mga ganitong system kaya bihira magivest mga local banks dito.

There was a fraudulent transaction attempt on my wife's HSBC card, their system detected it and automatically declined the transaction. We only got to know it from a call from HSBC, notifying us of the said attempt and that a replacement card is on its way. Her compromised card was deactivated to avoid future attempts.

Another experience we had was with Citibank atm card. Upon using a compromised atm I received an email immediately saying the atm I used was compromised and to call the Citibank help desk. This is where the CSR explained that their system detected the compromised atm and that they will disable my card for protection. They sent a replacement card.

All of the replacement cards were free. Kaya I prefer to use multinational banks, they have the interest of protecting their customers and is willing to invest on sophisticated technologies to deliver this. Local banks barat, isip siguro nila mas mura pang hintayin na lang nila yung reklamo ng client and hire a group of person to sift and address the reported fraud cases.

Yup how i wish ganyan. Yung mga kakilala ko ganyan yung card nila (saudi issued) notified agad after transaction.

One time parang na cut yung card niya, he called his bank akala nung bank niya nanakaw yung card since tuloy tuloy ang transaction. Nakabakasyon siya that time dito.
