Those interceptors cannot deter multiple independent re-entry warheads which the russians have.
The interceptors are for psychological security.

How about Russia puts missile defense systems in Mexico and Canada. Tell me that the US wont get pissed.
Well to be fair to Mr.Putin he isn't the one starting wars he can't finish(Iraq), then demanding another one to the country right next to them.

FYI, Czech isn't exactly right beside Russia.... in between them are Poland and some other breakaway USSR states.
Though the US made a blunder with this one, going for direct negotiations with Czech instead of coursing it to the NATO (which the latter is also a member) as a whole (since the NATO has a mandate to deploy a missile defense system sometime in the future).

Authoritarian states like Russia need to have a strong case for being one (authoritarian). They have to find an "enemy" outside to justify its hold on power because if it fails to present a strong case, then its people may force the state to embrace democratic reforms. Its like saying 'cmon let's become a strong state so that we will be able to counter the threat of the west- Democracy may only weaken us' ..
In reality though, the threat may not even exist... In the long run however, there will always be these kinds of conflicts because heads of states are there to represent the interests of their people.
