i was driving along the underpass with a Serena in front of me. Just when the Serena reached the bottom most part of the underpass, biglang hard brake; it seemed like from 60 - 20kph sya in 1-2 seconds. a few more inches e na rear end ko na sya. kaya pala nagbebrake, me lubak pala -- which wasn't really that big -- na dinadaanan.

so let me get this straight: mas preferrable na mag hard brake ka at each lubak you see, para iwas damage sa ilalim, at the risk of getting rear-ended?

It would be much wiser not to follow too close, give an ample clearance for sudden braking instances.

Kahit na slow moving traffic, di natin calculated ang sudden moves, not just braking procedures.

if you're afraid of hitting the vehicle in front of you in case that vehicle makes a sudden and rapid deceleration, you're following too close.

whether dahil sa lubak or dahil biglang may tumawid na bata, the driver of the vehicle at the rear would be more at fault in a rear-ender

well, sa mga nabasa ko noon regarding driving, dapt daw me must follow the 3 seconds rule, i.e. we must have at least 3 seconds separation so we can have ample time to react to the actions of the drivers in front of us. night time driving requires more distance than in daytime.
    better safe than sorry.

    Regarding the question about braking:

As much as possible just try to keep a steady pace so that your vehicle will just 'glide' over the road irregularity.

Braking will only cause you vehicle's weight to shift to the front and the impact of the pothole will be greater and more stressful to your front suspension than if you just decided to run over the damn thing.

yeah tama si ungas. dapat hindi ka masyadong malapit sa car in front of you. give ample space for braking and the like...and if ever you rear-ended nga the serena..lalabas na mali mo pa kasi pwede nyang sabihin na nag-ta-tailgate ka na..

so ingat na lang lagi :D

i remembered my experience sa north express way a few months back.. siguro more than 20 - 30 meters ang agwat namin nung crosswind, nasa harap ko siya. night time yun, around 8pm siguro, ok naman ang takbo tuloy tuloy, i was running at around 100 - 120 kph

tapos biglang nakared yung break light ng crosswind, i slowed down, tapos palapit ako ng palapit taka ako bat d siya umaandar, hanggang sa full apak ako sa break skid ako mga 2 meters siguro... i was expecting kasi na tatakbo na siya by the time lapit ako sa kanya

yun pala, yung road uneven, biglang umangat ng mga 2 to 3 inches siguro, tapos ayaw niyang daanan agad. haay nakuu ewan ko nalang nag full stop sa gitna ng express way ba naman...
