I was born and grew up abroad in the US din. Walang yaya, maid or drivers dun, so you learn to be independent from an early age. You want extra spending money? You work for it, shoveling snow, mowing lawns, and washing cars, depending on the season.
Kaya culture shock talaga nung nag-balikbayan kami dito. Kids were such pampered ‘softies’ at the school I transferred to... although the ones who were really well off, were actually so down to earth. Come to think of it, those who had smart parents that didn't spoil their kids, most generally went on to continue and expand their family businesses,

rather than squandering the hard work of their parents and grandparents.
