    Yup,- it's a land of opportunity out there....

    It’s not the country, it’s the person. He finally woke up and realized... na walang mangyayari sa kanya, alone in place where you can wind up eating from dumpsters if you don’t work, kaya he helped himself.

    I was born and grew up abroad in the US din. Walang yaya, maid or drivers dun, so you learn to be independent from an early age. You want extra spending money? You work for it, shoveling snow, mowing lawns, and washing cars, depending on the season.

    Kaya culture shock talaga nung nag-balikbayan kami dito. Kids were such pampered ‘softies’ at the school I transferred to... although the ones who were really well off, were actually so down to earth. Come to think of it, those who had smart parents that didn't spoil their kids, most generally went on to continue and expand their family businesses, rather than squandering the hard work of their parents and grandparents.

    Bro. he is successful there and I am genuinely happy for him....

    However, talking with him, sometimes, it makes me cringe.

    Makes me think about our counterparts in the US. They may be US-educated but they do not know exactly what they're saying, plus the laid back work attitude leading to procrastination. I am certain you've encountered these types of people there. IMO, they have that position (and salary grade) only because they are in the US.

    More so, about our counterparts in EU.

    So, while I agree with you that it is the person, IMO, to a larger extent, it is the country...

    Uhm, could your elaborate a bit more on this? Medyo not too sure what you're saying exactly. Pero if what you mean is yung nagmamagaling, feeling magaling, pero di na hindi naman talaga "magaling"... I think universal naman yan kahit saan sa mundo may taong ganyan LOL

    ===
    Contrary to what was impressed on me when I was younger though, hindi rin ako bilib sa school "pedigree"- keso Harvard pa yan or kung saan pa nag-graduate ang isang tao.

    Of course, the more... "prestigious" institutions tend to be very selective when it comes to admitting students and charge high tuition fees, so they take the better performing students and have more resources at their disposal, but that's not the end all of it. This may offend some (sorry ha?), but I have to say marami rin "engot" na may degree from schools in Katipunan, Diliman and Taft. Mayabang lang umasta.

    actually, nakakamiss nga din. nowadays din kasi medyo iwas na din sa inom kaya hindi na din nagagawa.
