from out of nowhere—pak! Suddenly, a new phrase is in wide use and some people may find themselves in the minority as they (a) resist the urge to use it or (b) look down on people who are using it.

If you're in either category, good luck. "Pak ganern" is in peak use and there's no telling when it'll be stored in archive, along with catchphrases of years past.

According to anthropologist and professor Felipe Jocano Jr from the University of the Philippines-Diliman, a phrase like "pak ganern" appeals to the Pinoy humor.

"It's something playful. It can be used as a pun," Jocano tells GMA News Online in an interview....

I dunno if it's just me, yung disgust sa pag kain ng food ng ibang tao na di mo kilala > pagnakaw LOL. I mean of course stealing is bad, but there's just no possible gains here, baka magka sakit ka pa kung marumi or may sakit ung real owner haha.

Hindi pa naman nangyayari sa akin. i tend to avoid putting stuff in the ref anyways.

Agreed. Never stole in my life. But I get it if someone would steal your unopened soda in can or even an opened 1.5L soda or chocolates but to steal food na lutong bahay from a stranger, papasok din sa isip ko na baka magkasakit pa ko. Sa dati kong work nangyayari din to. I've experienced losing a Starbucks mug as well. Isa din to sa di ko magets. For me kahit anong hugas pa ng mug tapos from a stranger pa hinding hindi ko pagiinteresan (unless it's from Jessy Mendiola, lol!). That's just too gross/sick. Maselan lang talaga ko sa ganun. May mga ganung klaseng tao talaga e.
