FIVE people were confirmed injured after typhoon “Yoyong” (International codename: Nanmadol) slammed into Eastern Luzon Thursday, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said in a report.

The report did not give the identities of the victims, who were hit by a tree in the municipality of Catarman, Northern Samar province in the Eastern Visayas region.

The Red Cross reported that a man in Catanduanes province died of electrocution but the OCD did not confirm this.

The OCD report added that Angat dam in Bulacan province and Pantabangan dam in Nueva Ecija had opened their gates.

The report also said that 1,835 passengers were stranded in sea ports in Sorsogon, Albay, Catanduanes, and Masbate provinces.

“Yoyong,” which packs winds of 185 kilometers per hour, made landfall in Aurora province Thursday evening.

It is the fourth storm to hit the country in two weeks.
