Uy, may tinamaan. Bato-bato sa langit...hehehe

Btw, the article above was written by Rick Reilly. It's fun reading an article without grammatical or spelling errors. Yung ibang magaling kasi diyan, isang paragraph na nga lang ang post, sablay pa, hehehe. Tapos nagmamarunong sa ekonomiya. What is the world coming to?

Sa definition na yan di na sya mayaman kasi pati auto nya (Civic FD if I recall used pa nga ata) may loan sya sa kumpanya nya... Sabi ni uls kasi mga mayayaman binilbili ang mga depreciating assets like car by paying cash and not having loans. Of course, I agree... Di naman ako mayaman, may-kaya lang pero mga kotse ko lahat yun cash...

    RE: private aircraft

    RE: the article posted above

professional athletes, actors who spend their money on stuff like that are stupid

that's not what i was referring to when i said people who use private aircraft consider it as a tool to save time

    i'll give a local example:

    Lucio Tan

he's known to fly around in helicopters

one of his routes is flying from his Biak na Bato residence in QC to his Allied Bank office in Makati

that saves him a lot of time

time that would be wasted if he got stuck in land traffic

his helicopters make him more productive, which makes him more money

income from his businesses pay for the cost of maintaining his helicopters

the aircraft contribute to income by increasing the productivity of the owner

    so the aircraft are assets

    that's what i meant

So , mahirap magtabi ng extra.

Private planes (of the LearJet and Gulfstream kind) do not connote productivity. They are emblems of success and extravagance. Lucio Tan is an oddity. Maybe he hates traffic. This coming from a guy who, even if he owns an airline, likes to seat in the economy section..."kasi sabay-sabay din naman ang dating ng economy at first class sa destination."

You don't use a plane or chopper to increase you or your company's productivity. Coming to meetings on time will not dramatically improve your productivity. Productivity is all about optimization of assets, talent, efficient workforce and cutting-edge innovation.

it's coz, normally, as income goes up, so does standard of living

everybody wants to move up the socio-economic ladder

naturally, as your standard of living rises, so does the cost to maintain it

so there's pressure to keep on making more money

as you make even more money, your standard of living goes even higher... and so does the cost

    it's neverending

dati renting lang, then sariling bahay

    then mas malaking bahay

then mas malaki pang bahay, second house, third house...

    imagine the maintenance cost

dati isang kotse, then dalawa, then 3, 4, 5...

    imagine the maintenance cost

the circle you move in... the money you have to spend to look good

    clothes, shoes, stuff

    dining, nightlife, travel

the higher up the socio-economic ladder you go, the more expensive it gets

it's easy to understand why people never have enough money

Pero bilib ako sa mga old-school Chinese, especially the Binondo type... They continue to improve their sources of income pero they still live in those same old apartments in the narrow streets of Binondo... Tapos commute pa rin, walang kotse (or kasi walang parking )

dead investment naman kasi sa mga chinese ang fancy houses. nag-a-acquire na lang sila pag talagang marami na silang extra. money's better spent in business expansion or income inducing activities.

sir, if it's not for productivity, it's for saving time

time that can be spent making more money than getting stuck in traffic

and in the case of using private jets, it's saving the time that one could lose during the whole process of taking commercial flights

i guess we wouldnt disagree that, to some people, time is more valuable than gold

Bros, remember that we are talking about income here. Not accumulated wealth or inheritance. So, spending trends are a bit warped.....

I'm trying to make my saved money earn a bit more than just sitting in my saving account getting 1% gross interest.

Over the last few years I have placed different amounts in different investment funds, etc.

At least these days, I can see some returns already.

But still far from being "rich".

True but then again Henry Sy is very old so I guess di maiiwasan magkaroon ng health problems...

Let's take Bill Gates na lang. He is healthy and rich! You can have both naman eh.
