I am a christian/catholic. I hate it when christians/catholics act so close-minded that they become so unchristian. christianity is about having a questioning faith not blind faith. lets not ban this movie. what doesnt kill your faith makes it stronger. the only means to have a stronger faith is by questioning and seeking the truth. being enlightened.

AFAIK, "The Golden Compass" is ...
- not the same as Da Vinci Code, 'coz the target audience is your kids.
- not the same as Harry Potter books, 'coz the author is a professed atheist with an explicit agenda.
Wiki says the author, Phillip Pullman, "is a supporter of the British Humanist Association and an Honorary Associate of the National Secular Society. New Yorker journalist Laura Miller has described Pullman as one of England's most outspoken atheists."
Still, as parents and teachers, it's good to know a bit about it.
Parang vaccination -- take the toxoid, but not the toxin.
Nothing in this world is absolutely evil. That's why evil things can appear tantalizingly good. Those who are defensive about Pullman's books seem to forget that the target is not adults, but children. Bago nila isubo ito sa mga bata, dapat mabalaan muna ang mga magulang at mga guro.
If you feel the precautions to be paranoid or imposing, try Matthew 19:6;
and if you still think Jesus Christ was righteous and judgmental on this issue, well ...
... you're actually right.

well, if christian parents are angered by atheists who write children's books that show their kids what they don't want them to see....shouldn't atheist parents be angered by the hundreds of children's books, movies, tv shows and children's edition bibles that the Church and Christians produce...for the exact same reason?
the more important point is - are some parents that insecure about their children's upbringing that they think a single atheist fantasy book will somehow undo a lifetime of raising their children "the right way"? :hihihi:
surely they don't suck that much at parenting :bwahaha:

The book and the movie go beyond mere business interests, since there are negative* ideologies -- secular humanism and atheism -- being propagated, and there are institutions behind it.
