I've been using trickle chargers on regular cars w/ regular batts, doc. Though they've proven to double the average Motolite life, I still lost faith in that batt brand. Without the charger, they seem to last, kinda precisely, as long as their warranty....it's amazing.[emoji13]

    thank you.
    kinda like push-starting of olde.

    so now, i'm curious...
    what's with the seemingly-lousy battery?
or, is it possible, tinipid nila yung alternator natin?
    heh heh.

So on average, for every 50L of fuel you've used up, you're saving 125ml or about P6.25.

How can you recover enough money to replace the battery every so and so months?

I know part of the idea behind this feature was to go green... That, I am aware of. But come on.... all that inconvenience and expense to save an almost negligible amount of fuel?

Granted, YMWV depending on who's driving. Well, I just thought it was funny.

When I was shopping 3s back in '14, I weighed having the 2.0 against the hobo 1.5 I got & still have. iStop turned on turned me off. The EFB/AGM need tipped me over. The old school low tech dino w/in was just way too dominant.[emoji13]

The Motolite EFB was priced like those it failed to be, doc. What owners are complaining is about something they long knew upon getting the iStop equipped...thrice pricier battery that won't last twice longer than regular flooded ones on non-iStop cars.
That's why you're hearing a voice in the wilderness yelling CTEK, CTEK, CTEK CT5 Start/Stop...I just dunno who's listening.[emoji13]

perhaps if someone were to come up with a fabrication or gadget, that would make it very easy for the owner to hook the ctek to the battery, without even opening the hood.
something like an oversized earphone jack in the car, whereupon motorista simply jacks in the plug and walks away.

my relative is a proponent of frequent trickle charging, and he says it really extends the life of his battery. but i personally found the procedure, too hassle.

Long been figured by em makers, doc. CTEK calls em Comfort Connect. You can run the plug out the grille or the cowl vent...whichever feasible, doc. The 2nd pic is for the older Deltran Battery Tender. They're similar.

I have seen that workaround, but that affects the car's alarm system which won't engage.

It's a Yellow Top D35. I sourced it from Absolute Autworks, at Banawe, 24 months warranty. I certainly hope it lasts longer.

A simple way is to keep the AC thermostat at the lowest temp setting. iStop won't likely launch.

I wish I could permanently turn it off.
In my experience, I need not turn off i-Stop because this shortened battery life even more. Whenever I make a full stop e.g., stop light or intersection, I don't step on the break too hard so as not to trigger i-Stop. When stuck in traffic, I just turn the wheel and wait for the i-Stop green light indicator to go away, put it in neutral, and pull the hand break, this way I can relax because I need not step on the break the whole time.

    YMMV.

    Mga Bros,
Anyone replaced their CX5 with non-EFB battery like Amaron outside of the casa?
If so, did you require programming reset just like what they do in casa? Can an indie shop do that?

    Thanks,
    Uncle

I use Amaron. No need to reprogram, just initialize i-stop by running it until new batt is fully charged and i-stop indicator on HU lights up. Probably takes an hour or more. If you're lucky, there's no need to initialize. I-stop works fine.

A lot of CX5 owners have been using Amaron since it came out. Still lasts 3 years if you take care of it. I personally don't use i-stop so I don't see the need for EFB.

So after installing Amaron, to initialise means do you leave it to idle for an hour? Or drive it around for an hour until i-Stop lights in HU?

Better to drive it around for an hour or until i-stop lights up.

Forcing a Regular Flooded Batt in a Start/Stop vehicle is, of course, an owner's call. Many have done so w/ luck. Just pair it w/ a trusty trickle charger & beware of possible consequences.

Removed battery due to engine cleaning.. no i-stop errors.. but you need to reset the sunroof and driver window..

Also be sure to remove the current sensor attached at the negative terminal when installing new battery. Attach the negative terminal then the current sensor

I have to admit that I didn't read the Owner's Manual so I have to ask you this, where's the current sensor? I don't remember seeing the sensor the last time I removed the negative terminal. I must have seen it but didn't recognize it. Kindly post a picture.
