    -1.8 L I4 MZR, 85 kW (116 PS/114 hp)
    -2.0 L I4 MZR, 110 kW (150 PS/148 hp)
    -2.3 L I4 MZR, 117 or 119 kW (159-162 PS/157-159 hp)
    -2.0 L I4 MZ-CD Diesel, 77 or 105 kW (105-143 PS/103-141 hp)

We are aware of those engine choices. What gwapito69 and I meant is slap a V6 in it and not limit Mazda5 to those above mentioned engine line-up.

In summary, Mazda should slap the 220hp 3.6l V6 engine to Mazda5 found on USDM Mazda6.

Is this the Grandis? If so, Mazda5 is lower in height compared to this. hence, it's called the crossover flatform.

Quick Comparison just to give you an idea how tall the Mazda5 is and factor the ground clearance:

2005 RAV4 is 65.7 inches in height ground clearance of 6.3"
2006 Mazda5 is 64.2 inches with ground clearance of 5.5"
2006 Mazda3 Wagon is 57.7 inches with ground clearance of 5.7"
2005 Toyota Matrix is 61.6 inches with ground clearance of 5.9"

    The Width:
    2005 RAV4 is 68.3 inches
    2006 Mazda5 is 69.1 inches
    2006 Mazda3 Wagon is 69.1 inches
2005 Toyota Matrix is 69.9 inches

The interior looks bigger than the Mazda3 HB/Wagon. Thats all I can say because I didnt do any test drive.

Just came from the mazda dealer. price is the same if not lower than the Mazda3 hatchback because ABS and side curtain airbags are standard. MSRP for a sport Mazda5 matic with fog lamps, side skirts, rear spoiler, moonroof and indash 6 disc changer is $20,500 give or take.

fuel consumption is a bit higher than the mazda 3 because of the heavier body. 3 miles per gallon lower ang recovery. Mazda3 is 24/29, mazda5 is 21/26

I didn't have time to test drive but i did test all the seats. first I sat in the driver's seat and adjusted it to my normal driving position. then i went to the front passenger seat and adjusted it for normal comfortable sitting postion. it was slightly forward of the driver's seat because there is no steering wheel.

seats were nice and firm. driver's seat can also be adjusted vertically.

with the two front seats in position. i fixed the two rear seats in normal comfortable sitting postion. very spacious and comfortable because there are only two "captain's" chairs in the second row.

now for the third row seats: obviously the passenger side would be my best bet to be able to fit because the first row starts a bit forward because of the lack of the steering wheel. so i left the passenger side 2nd row seat in place and entered the third row from the driver's side, sliding the driver's side 2nd row seat forward. I sat down in the passenger side third row and to my surprise it was fairly useable for a 200 lb adult like me. granted i am short, only about 5 foot 7 with a beer belly. it felt like i was in the third row of a gen 2 pajero. useable for small adults but not for trips of over 2 hours i guess.

my final verdict on the seating comfort...... very easily and comfortably the mazda5 will seat 4 full size adults (kahit oversize nga pwede dahil 4 individual chairs siya) and two kids up to about 12 years of age (unless anak yan ni Shaq, siguro hanggang 5 feet tall at walang beer belly ) maybe even a pair of petite females will fit in the third row.

using all the seats will still leave a little cargo space left maybe for overnight trips only. anything more than that you will have to get a roof rack, which it has provisions for with locations top bolt into the roof.

i will be scheduling a test drive next week, but for the money (under 20,000 if you limit the options) there is no other car that gives you the seating flexibility and the cargo capacity of this vehicle. As for the torque and HP and fun factor, i will report on it after the test drive. but so far, this seems to be the way to go if you have a small family.

was able to talk to one of the prominent people of Mazda Philippines yesterday during the press launch of the Mazda 6 2.3L. He said that they are no plans yet of bringing the 5 here.

I'm assuming the Mazda 5's underpins are based on a car chassis and with all the nice looking interior appointments coupled with a good price, this thing can beat the Innova easily. Watch out Toyota! The deteriorating sales of Innova now would be quite blissful in comparison to the expected vicious slaughtering the Innova will experience when the Mazda 5 comes out! Now, Mazda, do your part and sell this vehicle in the Philippines ASAP and at the right price!

    OT:

Kahit na pang masa yang Innova, pero sobrang mahal naman. For me, I like the Innova G A/T D4D except for its high price tag of Php1.030M. Add some more to the budget and there are so many other better vehicles to get like the Honda CR-V 4x2 A/T, Ford Everest 4x2 A/T, Ford Escape 4x2. The point is, if Toyota just priced the Innova at a much lesser price point with the same set of features then it would jibe better with its "masa" image and it would have been a good choice in terms of price/performance ratio.

IMO the innova beats the Gen2 V which in turn is worse than the Gen1 V. i never liked driving our Gen2 V. Innova is ok though. Gen1 V beats them all!
