Hi sirs, good day. Im hearing a rattling sounds under the dash/behind the instrument cluster of our 2 skyactiv. Any tips kung ano yun? Thanks!
Di pa po ako makapagpost ng sarili kung thread. Need 5 replies pa. Sorry guys if I have to "hijack" this thread.
My issue is this:
I just bought a 2019 Mazda 2. It's not even 3 mos old yet and it already has a defective fuel pump. The dealer told me so after taking the car back there when it had trouble starting 3x on separate occasions. Good thing is that I was parked when it happened. What if something else happened while I was running on the streets because of a faulty something?
My colleagues say it's definitely not the battery. There are no indications in the dashboard on why it was failing to start. It just happened all of a sudden. And after it started back everything is back to normal.
Any Mazda owners have had this kind of issue? Especially brand new ones? Does Mazda have this issue?
Or for other car makes, did you have issues so soon after buying a brand new car?
Also, the dealer is basically saying, and I am paraphrasing, "s\h\i\t happens, but we are here to help our customers".
I can't believe they would say that! I would expect a car to begin showing issues after a year or so of continued use, although ideally it should not. But a brand new one and not even a quarter of a year old? This is shocking and disappointing at the same time.
Thoughts and opinions?
Thanks,
Marky
Always 91 po Sir. Recommended by the dealer and in the manual.
Once with Unioil beacuse they had a S&R member promo, but the rest is Shell. Oh, the issue already manifested even before I had Unioil. Don't think it matters if I had Caltex, Petron or something else besides Shell as long as it's 91, yes?![]()
That’s strange. The mazda 2 has been released in the market for quite some time now. Any problems should have been addressed by now...
We have a car which the engine was replaced under warranty... it was only 1 and a half year old. The best thing you can do is claim for warranty and hope it wouldn’t happen again.
Every car manufacturers have problems. It’s just that, as I have noticed, people tend to forgive the failings of Japanese cars more often than American or Korean brands. Dala ng brand loyalty siguro.
Fuel pump? Which one are they pointing? In-tank or the injector side high pressure one? Either way, it should be an isolated issue. You're covered by warranty. The dealership should have whatever is causing that sorted. Make sure to rule out bad fuel. If the starter cranks fine, battery & starter are ruled out...That would point fuel or fuel distribution. Do keep us posted.
Don't worry...Skyactivs are proven reliable. There are increasing numbers out there that are clocking 6fig miles & kms w/ no issues. This is just 1 of em....

It's under warranty pa po sir. They're not making me pay for anything. Ang ano ko lang, ay baket nagkaganito when it's so new? Is this normal? Does this happen? Cguro ako yung 1 sa 100,000, malas ko lang po?
Also, I've had the fuel down to the last 10km (according to dashboard) because I was careless. This only happened once. After that I always made sure I refueled when I hit 1/4 of the tank. Would that be an issue with fuel pumps? Ang dali namang masira kung ganun.![]()
Ask ko po. Thanks for pointing this out. I presume it's the latter. At one point, the engine was shaking really hard when I tried to start it after being parked for one hour. The dealer also experienced this firsthand when I brought it there. Like good timing (for bad reasons) it "broke down" again the moment I reached their shop.
They already ruled out the battery po the 1st time I brought it there. 2nd time is when they asked me to leave it for a day for full diagnosis.
Hayz malas ko naman. Nanalo nalang sana ako ng lotto sa chances na to. Lol!
Avoid running on empty. Fuel acts as your pump's lube & coolant. Try keeping your tank at least fourth full all the time. Who knows, your issue may just be from a bad tank from some flooded or poorly maintained station you filled up from...which may have clogged your filter. Remote, but that could happen.
Our neighborhood Shell has been my lone go-to station. It's well elevated & strictly maintained by the management, Shell itself & their service contractor. On long trips where I'd have to fill up, I'd choose those I've tried w/o any bad fuel trouble. Guess why the OCD...have had cases of bad tanks of petrol on other cars. Draining fuel is tedious & messy.[emoji852]
Oh, let the dealership go over thoroughly them lines & hoses....Plugs & coils. A fluke bad vac leak or ignition component (coil or plug) could cause your symptoms, too. Coils & wires are fave mice pacifiers or snacks.

I had a Honda City before. Yung range niya napaabot ko ng zero na. Napaandar ko pa ng mga 10km siguro. Wala pa ako kasi ako mahanap na gas station. We also have a lancer, Napaabot ko yung fuel gauge na mas mababa pa dun sa empty line. But they did not have any issues with their fuel pump.
In your case, that is definitely not normal. Defective talaga yung part. You have no fault. Ganyan talaga minsan, malas lang talaga. Just hope it won’t happen again.
Sir, thanks po. Will keep those in mind. My almost empty case was a one time thing. I know it's bad to run that low. Appreciate the reminder. I need to be reminded every now and then para di ako careless. Iniisip ko kasi na bagong-bago pa to, walang mangyayari. And then it breaks down. Bummer! But I don't think that was the cause. I am more inclined to believe that they gave me a defective unit which has really got me furious.
Honestly, I've handled 2nd hand cars before and the only issue I had were flat tires. Yes, tell me I'm exaggerating. I'm not. But let us leave this story for another day.
Matanong din po Sir, when you start your Mazda after it was parked for a long time, let's say overnight, does it initially rev up to 2 to 3 RPM before it goes down to 1? This happens to mine. This is normal right? I am trying to recall if this behaviour is described in the manual. But I might have missed it though.
EDIT: Just to be clear the car is in P. When I start it RPM will go up to 2-3RPM as if I'm stepping on the accelerator, which I'm not. The noise is normal but noticeably loud. Then it goes back to normal and silent after a few seconds.
Thanks po,
Marky
