Test drove this today and forgot to ask this question on manual mode. Once i force a downshift, it would that gear no matter how high the rpm gets?

I think it should for your car... I remember doing this with my car using auto mode, I used the paddle shifters. I'm actually surprised because I realized I wasn't in manual mode. For now, I am concluding that my unit is capable in full auto, semi-auto, and semi-manual.

There should be a limit on the "number" of downshifts that you can do when compared to a real manual transmission.

Another thing, I remember my colleague that his car is equipped with sports mode. I don't know what it does but according to him, it makes you more engaged in your driving. I think this sports mode is available only for the gasoline variant, I have the diesel version.

IIRC, paddle shifters takes priority so overrides the setting on the stick shifter. Thus, you can shift manually using the paddles even if the stick is in a different mode.

I really appreciate this override thing. Knowing this, I enjoy the comfort of full auto mode and manual shifting at will anytime I want.

The great thing about Skyactivs...they're all wired similarly. Even those w/o paddles can add them by grabbing the proper OE parts from the variants w/.[emoji4]

    Ok to be clear,

manual mode: sticks to the gear selection of your paddle shifters

D mode: paddle shifter still works (?)(didnt try this) but will eventually adjust to the optimal gearing

    This is a question btw

In my case, yes. The D mode allowed me to shift gears down but not up if the RPM is below the threshold

For manual mode, I almost reached the red line. I'm not sure if the second gear will allow you to reach the red line but I was almost a few hundreds away from it. I don't want to confirm it myself so let's wait for someone who did it, that is, reaching the red line for the second gear.

When overtaking immediately, it's good to use the manual mode to downshift because may "latency" in gear selection sometimes when in automatic mode.

Most cars nowadays have rev limiter.

Hi gents! I am currently saving for an MX5 manual tranny for next year. I'm just wondering if the driving dynamics of the MX5 and the Mazda 2 hatch are minimal (currently leaning toward the MX5 MT unless swayed due to minimal driving difference in cornering and speed)

Yes, rev limiter. I think that is what my colleague was saying about his Montero that the 1st and 2nd gears will automatically shift up even if set to manual mode.

    MX5=RWD w/ perfect 50/50 weight distribution.
M(invisibleX)2= FWD w/ caster angle set like RWDs. FWDs won't benefit from 50/50. I'd like to imagine it's close, but will never be an MX5.[emoji4]
Since that dream is beyond reach for now...this hobo can't be any happier w/ the super fun M(invisibleX)2. Grateful![emoji121]️
What I'd really love is..... to own both.[emoji4]

I don't think I'll ever have the guts for this kind of modification... but who knows?

    It's stealth & reversible. OVT isn't a tuner that chases numbers....Some say they're about happiness, most say it's like s*x....Safe S*x, of course.[emoji16]
