Maybe the 5 km/liter is for the A/T variant. The sales rep I chatted with at Kia Dagupan also cited a figure of 12-13 km/liter that a doctor reportedly got using the M/T variant, with mixed highway and city driving.

I was checking out the Carens on display here last week and I noticed that it employs a footbrake instead of a handbrake as its parking brake, similar to the one on my Sedona.

I can understand the rationale for the footbrake on the Sedona, since it frees up the aisle, enabling ease of access to the rear seats from the front. With the Carens however, the front center aisle is occupied by an assortment of storage compartments, so I think the footbrake isn't really needed here.

sobra lakas naman yun pag 5.5km/L lang talaga ang carens.even worst than fusion(6km/L). I think Carens can do better than that!

I think this may have something to do with the US market. Remember those old full sized sedans from waaaay back had front bench seats? Foot parking brake is a neat way of making that middle position liveable. I also have dim recollection of some old survey/research that American women prefer the pedal parking brake.

the 5.5km/liter is applicable to gas-fed engines siguro lalo na dito sa metro manila, kahit anong gas engine over 2.0 talagang hanggang 5km/liter ka lang pag nakasabay mo mga hinayupak na Jeepneys and PUV

but I highly doubt na CRDi eh ganyan ang FC.
