1. If you're the everyday consumer, there's no problem in getting OEM-made head units.
2. Your definition of SQ is more defined about your digital signal processing more than anything else. Any head unit can sound good as long as they have DSP.
3. All head units are made in China or some low-cost country. Even Pioneers and Alpines... well, maybe except their 6-digit head units (Pioneer ODRs and Alpine F1 Status) which are probably still made in Japan.
4. As to which OEM-made head unit you should choose: go for the features you'll be using, the interface that you like, and finally... a price that is justifiable. In other words, don't mind the branding.
5. Oh, and I'm on my stock head unit too. Except that it performs much like those 6-digit head units... after a few tweaks here and there (which aren't for the faint-of-heart) and I professionally compete. Ako lang ganito saamin though

Gents, just to let you know na meron din leak yung Santa Fe ko dito sa Riyadh. Nag start na kasing umulan dito. nag check ako kanina, basa sya hangang second row. November 2012 manufactured yung unit ko.
Yes. Kahit ano gawin mo, a DSP will be very important. That's what differentiates your everyday head units with "audiophile" head unitsthe ability to change your crossovers, your phasing, X-bands of EQ, etc.
As to what it is, it's Alpine's C800 controller for the H800 processor.
Was able to visit the Hyundai Dealer along North Edsa under the Laus Group. Wanted to check on the Hyundai Sta. Fe AWD version. However, only the 2WD was there. What surprised me was there was a MT version on the brochure. I had only thought there were two versions available. Would like to know if anybody has tried or currently has the MT version already. At 1.5M its seriously tempting to own especially if it only lacks a few features compared to the 2WD version.
Also the FC of the 2WD and the 4X4 Variant for City and Highway driving.
ser jhnkvn ano kotse 'yan?
two thumbs up!!
BTW mga magkano aabutin ng ganyang DSP?
kung naglalagay ka ng DSP puede ba wala na ext. amplifier?
* ser T|tan, 'yan din problema ng friend namin sa Sorento Club na may KDM... Philippine maps....
mukhang wala pa talaga Hyundai/Kia 'nun....North America/ Europe/ South korea lang ata meron...
mga guys /gals anyone have instructions how to remove tailgate trim, planning to do OEM SubWoofer intall tmmrw. t.i.a.

Hyundai Sonata :D
Hmmm, my H800 is Alpine's full-fledged DSP processor. It's the predecessor of the H701 and costs around Php38k. The controller (C800) retails around Php13k and I simply use it to tune on-the-go aside from displaying system statuses. However, dumami na rin competition nila compared to the early 2000s.. as external processors "boomed" around 2010.
As for the competition, locally, these are the older Audison BitOne and the Mosconi 6to8 which are priced at around Php30k. The JBL MS-8 is also a dark horse in the external processors (also priced at Php30k).. I won't recommend you go for it unless you have a friend who's experienced on it. Although it's advertised as plug-and-play.. it's still not there yet. However, it automates a lot of manual processes needed in the tuning process. I also have a unit and personally, I'm impressed on how intelligent Harman Group managed to configure it.
However, those who are non-power users may want to get their smaller brothers -- Audison BitOne and Mosconi4to6. They should be priced around Php16k. There are a lot of DSP which aren't distributed locally. Examples of these are Hong Kong's cheapo MiniDSP kits, Zapco Z-series, Arc Audio's DSP, etc. If you're the type to fiddle around, MiniDSP kits are inexpensive for their performance.
You see, konti lang kami mga audiophiles in the country. Makikita mo naman which head unit packs a powerful DSP or not -- first thing is that they're expensive. Our "entry-level" costs Php15k upwards.. these are Alpine CDA-137s, Pioneer 80PRS, Alpine CDA-117 + H100 processor (20k-ish). Phased out models are still selling at high prices (for example, a 2007 Alpine CDA-9887 which retailed at 16k is being sold at roughly 9,000php secondhand) in the secondary markets. Our "competition-ready" ones are at Php40k -- this is the form of Pioneer P99RS which crushed the others when introduced. Meron din dyan mga "uber high-end" such as Pioneer's ODR and Alpine F1 Status head units and processors. Dito rin mga legendary McIntosh head units. But what you can count on them is that they're retailing around Php120k and will put a hole to anybody's wallet.
Kung maglalagay ka ng DSP pwede ba walang external amplifier... that depends. Iba ang function nila -- a DSP molds the sound. An amplifier simply amplifies it. If I were to put it in car terms -- an amplifier is like a turbo kit.. your DSP is your ECU controller. It won't really matter how powerful your turbo is if you cannot harness it.
You can get a great sounding car without an amplifier ;) there are people out there who compete professionally without an amplifier. But that's more of because competing in a "sound quality" category doesn't need to be loud. For everyday driving, masmasarap kung meron. It's like horsepower.. you don't really need a whole lot of it.. but you'll appreciate it once you're out on the highway.

Just had our SF3 serviced for 20km and I spent 16t+ for it. One item that jacked up the cost was the use of synthetic engine oil. Up to 15km, the casa here in Davao was using mineral oil. However when I brought in the SF3 this morning I was entertained by a different service assistant and he recommended that I use synthetic oil. He added that they recommend the said oil especially for CRDI engines.
Is it really a must to use synthetic oil rather than the mineral oil for SF3? What type of engine oil do you use for your SF3?
Breakdown of the cost is as follows:
HFT Brake Cleaner 150
HGMO Fully Synthetic Oil 7360
Service Kit Oil Filter 1100
Filter Assy - Air 1700
Air Cleaner 1300
Filter Cartridge 2800
Labor 1596
Materials 180
Our SF3 is still functioning the way it was since Day One. Very fast, comfortable and reliable.
Since you can afford a SF3, might as well go for fully synthetic oil. It's not really a must.. but you can compensate for the additional costs by not changing the oil at your 25,000km PMS and simply request a "top-up" (or nothing at all). Fully synthetic oil lasts a long time and performance-wise are the best versus mineral and semi-synthetic hence F1 teams use fully-synth.

Si junkun13 ang nagshare niyan sa SFCP forum.
Agree ako sa sinabi ni jhnkvn regarding DSP and amps. In my case, Audison BitOne gamit ko with external amp. This augments my OEM HU.
Another ego booster for SF3 owners.

Guys do your santa fes have a "lifetime" fuel economy reading that you can access on your dash menu? it bases its reading on your odometer, not just trip A or trip B reading. if it does have, whats your "lifetime" fuel economy then? thanks!
My Mobis side garnish arrived yesterday. Sharing some pics, I still have to install them though.
