I have 2nd hand bought hyundai Sta. Fe. 2007 4WD. I've noticed that my gasoline consumption is too much.. Average 4 to 5 km/L city driving and 6 to 7 long distance driving. Is there something wrong? Pls help?

Is this the 2.7V6? If so then I think the city driving figure is pretty normal... Is 6-7 pure highway driving? I think that's a bit much even for the V6. See if a thorough fluid and filter change will improve things.

city consumption is normal. but in the high side depending on distance travel. if short travel like 5-10km, that consumption is acceptable.

however, for long distance meaning highway, that is pretty high.

as per hyundai santa fe service manual, for normal than high fuel consumption, first thing to do is change the spark plug.

if you have access to an OBD scanner, check if there is a ghost DTC. in my same santa fe, code P2189, P2187 did not trigger the check engine light. those codes means you are running lean and there is a leak in the air intake past the MAF sensor. ecu/fuel system is compensating for the unmeasured air thus the high fuel consumption. check the flexible rubber duct and resonators after the MAF sensor for any tear or cracks. check also the PCV rubber line for any damage.

you can also monitor the short term fuel trim and long term fuel trim with the OBD scanner. if LTFT is the range of 20 to 30, it will confirm the running lean. ideally it should be in the zero range (+/-, 5)

i was able to solve this in my V6 gas santa fe. the culprit was the purge control valve. it was stuck open.

after that my highway consumption has improved to 10.4km/l. this is pure highway driving from SLEX to TPLEX. no traffic passing EDSA.

Nag full tank ako (25.something liters) and nung nag blink na sya, naka total ako ng 225 something km yung buong takbo. Total Excellium po gamit ko that time. Salamat po sa makakapansin.

10-12kml might be doable. +4psi sa tire. 0w20 oils. clean filters regularly. and no tailgating.

A bit lower than I'd expect from an engine this small. Unless you flog the engine a lot? I recall getting 9km/L from a loaner 1997 Honda City 1.3M/T which was with me for a few weeks. And that was in Metro Manila traffic.
