Driving it in Baguio is far different from driving in Manila. in Baguio, you get multiple inclined roads, some straight and some are even turning...always a challenge in every corner. there was even a time i felt embarrassed my car couldn't go up the inclined slope due to lack of traction.
I think you'll be better at mastering the traction of the GCs in Baguio than here in Manila. one, two, or even three basement parking cannot compare to the multiple inclinations in Baguio.

The best tip is to avoid those kinds of roads. Have an alternate route in mind. Pag gamit ko nga GC ko iba ang routa ko pauwin vs yun daily driven. If you cant avoid it ayusin mo lang approach mo. The rear tire lift only happens when you turn going up an incline. Just try to make a wider turn para as much as possible both wheels are on the ground pag pa incline. Best is to avoid na lang inclined parking lots. The car is not made naman to go up parking lot inclines. Some parking malls na OK ang GC: are eastwood mall and rockwell, Nadala ko na din sa resort world with no problems.
Never encountered lost traction on an incline kaya hindi ko pa talaga alam ang gagawin. But if ever I might turn off the TC and use my hand brakes (hanapin ko yun bite point na kaya ng ng kotse umandar at the same time hindi babagsak)
I drive a manual baka iba ang technique sa automatic.

I'm not so sure about the manual, but with the A/T, if you are in "D" and you lose traction at any of the rear wheels, the Electronic Traction Control comes on and the car will not move, either forward or backward. You have to put it in "R" to make it back down. What I do is to turn off the Traction Control. Since we have limited slip differentials at the rear, what happens is if one wheel slips, power is moved to the other wheel until both wheels gains traction again. Nakakatakot lang when one wheel starts to slip and then grabs again. Pakiramdam mo, sumasayad under chassis mo.

It's more like there isn't enough rear suspension travel to keep both wheels on the ground... then again, there are some ramps where you need the wheel articulation of a live-axle Land Rover with no anti-roll bars to keep both rear wheels on the ground.

Do note, the differential of the Genesis is helical type, not a clutch type. That one doesn't do any good if one tire is completely off the ground, as you need resistance on both tires for it to work. That's why people are having trouble... because the traction control should still let you climb if the LSD is working properly and both tires are on the ground... if one wheel is in the air, no dice. I've experienced this personally on other vehicles with LSDs.
The Nissan 350Z and 370Z use a viscous type that isn't affected by wheels hanging in the air, but viscous LSDs require more maintenance than helical (helical types only require the same maintenance as regular open differentials... they just use a different fluid). A viscous diff experiences shearing of the fluid if you subject it to too much stress. A helical type will simply keep on working...

might be very impractical in the GC but a diff lock switch/option would be appreciated in driving on inclined roads.

October 13th, 2011 01:37 AM #3649Wow, that's an eye opener for me. I am planning to buy a Gen Coupe toward early next year, but I live in a Makati Condo with a very steep entry ramp for our parking. Since the Gen coupe has problems going up steep inclines, this made me think if it will still be possible for me to get this car. Our parking ramp is around 45 degrees incline; when its raining, a lot of cars that park in the building have a very difficult time climbing the ramp. I myself have encountered some wheel spinning on the slick ramp (esp when raining).
If the traction control is turned off, would it be possible na kaya for the Gen Coupe to climb our condo parking ramp?
