Wow! That looks so fun to drive!
I wonder if this will reach the Philippines. Kahit nga yung 1.5T hatch na lang muna![]()
There is no question it's one heck of FWD car. However, will it have a good market locally? Maybe if it is priced for 2M or less, it is one great buy.
However, if the price is set at over 2.5M, then it might have some problems selling. At around that price, you can go rally performance with a WRX STi or luxury performance with IS350 RWD. However, you can't beat exclusivity assuming only a few will be sold locally.
limited to just 100 units with an estimated price of P2.7 million and delivery of the first units to customers starting in December 2017
im sure ubos agad yan when it reaches our shores.
Honda Civic Type R to be sold locally in limited numbers - Carmudi Philippines
Bro I have a different take on this, I think the Type R will still sell even at 2.5M. You mentioned exclusivity, and I believe it will be the biggest factor for the Type R's success.
The Type R isn't like the IS which is Lexus' bread and butter. It's more Honda's halo car like the STI. Though slower than an STI, the Type R has its own charm and its own loyal following.
Heck, the Civic RS swayed a lot of would-be WRX buyers even if it's much slower. One factor is the lower price, but people are also drawn to the Civic's tech, and Honda's strong brand equity locally.
Past the 2M price range, it's really a matter of the heart more than the mind. I think only the Land Cruiser qualifies as a sensible/practical purchase at that price point. Those Euro cars and decked out Jap tuners are really more geared towards fulfilling your heart's desire than getting the best value for money.

^^^ Jalopnik made a numbers comparison among the bonkers compact performance cars. The Civic Type R is the lightest (due to FWD setup) and has the highest top speed (169 mph). It is also the most affordable (less than 34k USD). The Focus RS, Golf R, and WRX STi are quicker to 100 kmh than the Civic Type R.

Im kinda allergic to manuals. But this one is really tempting. Last manual i owned was a Galant VR6. Am thinking This Type R or the Golf R. The STi subaru is out of the question. Its fast but you have to cane it. No torque at the lower rpms. Or i could just tune the JCW and get the same power level.......

I wonder if honda will release a higher output type r. Im sure the output is still conservative and set for maximum reliability.
2 18 Honda Civic Type R Punches Out 295 WHP On The Dyno

Hard to make any generalizations from that dyno. I've visited the shop's FB page, and the dynos they have of stock or nearly stock cars seem a bit high.
Always take dynos with a grain of salt. Unless you were there and have a library of their run files to access, you don't know how the dyno compares to other dynos, whether the operator correctly or incorrectly uses correction factors like SAE corrections (for weather and temperature... which can make a real hash of dynos taken in extra cold or extra hot weather), torque correction factors (you should NEVER... because it requires too much guessing as to the actual drivetrain loss) and whether the pull was done in the proper gear (too low a gear and the torque spike will cause an inaccurate reading.)
Like the early dyno that "proved" the first R35 Nissan GT-R was making 500 whp (when subsequent dynos showed it was merely making the same whp as the Porsche 911 Turbo), this is an interesting data point, but not conclusive.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
The Civic Type R is officially coming to our shores. Each one will cost 2.98M and for 2017, only 100 units will be released. Reservations will be accepted starting July 11.

Some reports say that the 100 units were sold out already.
Sinu-sino dito naka-reserve na?![]()
Not surprised na sold out na. People were begging Honda to have a high performance model since the SIR. Kahit nga SI lang ok na eh. Glad they finally listened.
