    Re: Flashing your headlights

Eto lang instance na ginagamit ko siya

    1. Kapag kakaliwa ako, para lang masabi dun sa oncoming traffic na wait lang! Pero if he answers ng flash din, sige siya na mauna.

Exactly. Common sense is a misnomer really.

My favorite excuse of the passing lane hoggers are those who say that they're already travelling at the posted speed limit anyways.

    Ano naman kung naka-Vios.

I've driven a Vios on the highway and oo nagbababad ako sa overtaking lane, kasi nagoovertake ako ng ibang kotse.

About that flashing of light, I don't do it unless an accident is imminent or the road is extremely dark that I have to see a greater distance. In the overtaking lane of expressways, If the 2nd lane is free, I will just overtake from there or I will patiently wait for the driver to go to the 2nd lane unless he is getting awfully slow already and not allowing me to overtake.

I have learned the lesson to be patient in NLEX due to the incident that happened to me in NLEX. I was following a Ford Lynx and we were driving around 120 kph. When we passed almost all cars, he didn't want to go to the 2nd lane. So when I go to the 2nd lane, he will match my speed even if it reaches to 160 kph and for me, with passengers, that was way too fast and dangerous. When I saw an opportunity on the right lane to overtake, he sped up as well until I was caught behind a slow vehicle. Then when I returned to the overtaking lane, if I remember correctly, my overtaking speed was 120 to 130 kph, he slowed down to 100 kph and LITERALLY starting stepping on the brakes and slammed it to around 60 kph! Of course I slammed on the brakes too and my passengers were shocked as well. I had enough. I put my headlights to bright and gave him an earful of horn. Then he went to the 2nd lane.

As to the one complaining on drivers who are on the overtaking lane and the driver behind keeps on flashing his lights telling you to go to the 2nd lane while he could clearly see the long queue of vehicle and you are not the cause of the slow down, I could feel your irritation. As if he already bought the "right" to use the overtaking lane for himself and all vehicles should go to the slow lane when he comes. If it's only you and him on the overtaking lane, it's fine. Like the last time I was in NLEX and it was kinda busy that evening, there was this Sorento who I suppose got impatient coz suddenly he put his bright lights on and sadly he was behind me when he did that. There were so many vehicles on the overtaking lane before and even after me. He put his lights into bright then made this stunt to cut me when he tried to overtake on the 2nd lane but there was a truck in front and he just squeezed himself back to the overtaking lane. Guess what, there was a bus in front of me and another bus and God knows how many vehicles in front. He never got the chance to overtake anymore after me and he was in front of me for a good minute or 2 so I gave him a feel of bright lights as well. Then when the lane got clear, he just floored the gas pedal and I returned to the 2nd lane.

Sometimes it's really hard to believe that these drivers are full-grown men. The way they drive their cars and use the road is just unprofessional. These people maybe in their late twenties, early thirties to being in their fifties and drive like complete A-HOLES! Some people talaga walang disiplina at di na nagmature ang utak. I've had my share with these kind people...nakakahiya talaga.

    I know.

It would have been better if the driver just cruised at a steady pace like 100 or 80 kph since sooner or later, I will get an opportunity to overtake, but stepping on the brakes while the overtaking lane is clear and the only reason I could think of is he didn't wanna let me pass, that's BS. Even if I always maintain a somewhat safe distance, what if my brakes fail? For sure it will be a whole lot of mess and the reason is nothing, he just wanted to step on the brake.

is it safe to assume na yung mga "cool" na sa kalsada eh matatagal nang driver or matanda na sa edad? i have a feeling na yung mga maangas at pinepersonal ang mga nakaka-engkwentro nila sa kalsada eh mga young driver or teenager or mga new driver pa lang.

ako kasi nung 1st time to drive, maangas din ako at maharurot, then the time comes na mapagbigay na ko and realized na ok lang mabawasan ng ilang minuto yung arrival ko sa pupuntahan ko, buhay naman ako, safe, walang inargabyado, at higit sa lahat, di tumaas ang blood pressure ko.

i've encountered stupid drivers from all age group not just teenagers. from what i noticed teenagers madalas harurot when they get the chance but older stupid drivers don't know traffic rules and road courtesy. siguro kasi back then it was much much easier to get a license and karamihan tinuruan lang ni tatay/tito or kuya mag drive and there were less traffic rules unlike now most parents don't have the time to teach their kids how to drive so they enroll them on driving schools?

ako sir aaminin ko di ako dumaan ng driving school, hehe, self study lang and Gran Turismo sa playstation. dami ko lang natutunan kakabasa ng forum like tsikot. at syempre yung mga huli ko nung nagsisimula ako, laso my wife attended a driving school at kwento nya yung mga tips sa kanya dun, which i apply sa driving ko.

about road courtesy and traffic rules, naaalala ko yung mga interview sa jeepney driver asking them kung ano ibig sabihin ng mga traffic sign, laughtrip. yung no overtaking sign eh bawal na tumabi sa ibang sasakyan

i think going to driving school is a lot better than self study or learning from your dad/tito/kuya. ako i went to driving school in the states when i was 15 1/2 and had my student permit at 16 i got a license na agad. yung mga tito ko na galing sa philippines pag punta ng states nag aalangan mag drive dahil daw baka mahuli sila. naging habit na kasi nila ang pag drive sa pinas na daming hindi sinusunod na traffic law kaya pag dating sa ibang bansa na may nag iimplement talaga nahihirapan sila since naging habit na nga nila(beating the read light or pag yellow tuloy pa din imbis na mag slow down, swerving pinaka common mistake ng mga pilipino pag dating sa ibang bansa, doesn't use turn signals, yield, over speeding, doesn't stop at stop signs, or pag may hinahanap or naliligaw sobrang bagal na ang takbo) ayan ang mga pinaka madalas di sinusunod. ako i easily adjusted on driving in the philippines pag uwi ko.

Honda SIR - why ang daming haters?
