They should make the civic coupe as a top of the line model with the biggest VTEC engine and a manual transmission.

    Yeah you're right.

But maybe Honda is also concerned that if they release the hot-version of the Civic, it would just cause more road accidents... just my two-cents.

If they were so concerned about road-accidents, why did they offer the first SiRs with no ABS, hmmm? And as far as I can tell, they sold boatloads.

It's economics, though, that pushes everything. The top-of-the-line Type R would sell, yes, but how many could they sell? With a top-of-the-line Civic, Honda won't be able to get away with the SiR formula anymore.

The SiR formula was simple: Put in the engine, subtract as much kit as possible, sell the car at a respectable price. If the SiR had all the amenities of other top-of-the-line models, it would have appealed to many more people, but it would have cost around 900k (instead of 750-800k)... too expensive for most.

If we had the Civic Si over here, it would likely cost over 1.1 already, without the interior kit, bodykit, mags, amenities, etc... of the higher end Civic 2.0s. It would appeal to boyracers, yes, but how many boyracers have over 1m to spend? To make it appeal to people who'd spend that much, you'd have to offer the same level of kit that's present in the Focus 2.0 or the Civic 2.0 (with leather), which would push it to
1.2 or 1.3 million (or maybe 1.3-1.4 with the "luxury" tax for the powerful engine?)

For that much, you could go for an Accord. The number of potential buyers would then be in the dozens instead of the hundreds.

It would be a limited edition car, and Honda would have to equip at least half a dozen dealerships to service it... all of which costs money... (see how much it's costing Mitsu and Nissan to import tools and equipment for servicing EVOs and 350Zs... only to service a handful).

It doesn't make as much sense, economically, as having a stripped down 2.0 (which would honestly be fast enough) priced below 1 million to attract younger buyers away from the default boy-toys on the market, namely the Focus 2.0 and the Mazda3 2.0R.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

The void left by that 6th gen SiR is filled by the underappreciated Ford Lynx RS. I don't think an SiR is the appropriate match against your FGP examples (Mazda3 2.0R, Ford Focus 2.0 Sport).

Pero wala na yung Lynx RS. The formula was the same. The Lynx RS was "top-of-the-line" also, but lacked things such as stock leather seats and cabin detailing (costly 40k option for seats, 20k or so for cabin trim), power-fold mirrors (power adjustable, though), and rear windowshades.

Note, though the RS was a limited edition and very cheap for the performance it gave, it sold quite slowly. 250 units in three years!

Nowadays, buyers of top-of-the-line cars want all the amenities, all the gizmos, and all the doodads.

Thus, we aren't going to see cheap speed like the RS or SiR again for a long time, unless Honda sells stripped down 2.0 manuals.

And we're not going to see cars like the new Civic Si and Focus ST except as very small, expensive, limited editions.

Was the SiR really "cheap" during its time?
Wasn't it one of the first japanese cars to reach P800K mark, when other 1.6 cars were in the P625K-P700K range.
