The ES Civic was a letdown IMHO. It signified the intention of Honda to make the once-light and compact Civic into a larger, more mature car - you could say the trend continued with the current FD Civic. It's no longer as fun to drive as the EF/EG/EK simply because it's larger and heavier.
I'm not a believer in better engines, I'm more of a believer in better chassis design. EK for me.

March 23rd, 2010 08:03 PM #4Your are right.
The ES platform is the civic 2001 to 2005. Before that is the EF, EK and EK.
BUt please note that the ES form suspension is as simple single wishbone, is is not as good in handling than the SIR's double A suspension, which has exelent handling characteristic.
Honda I believe simplified the front suspension of the ES so as to lower the cost, but on the other hand, the VTEC3 engine is awesome. Comparatively to a same old 1998VTi, the 2002 Vti engine has better power to weight ratio.
Overall, it improved, other than the drawback in the front suspension, its a better car.
Anyhow, I'm a fan of all civic series.

March 23rd, 2010 08:13 PM #5^ The change of suspension to mcphersons was implemented probably not only to reduce costs but also to help maximize interior space - double wishbones take up quite some room under the chassis and in the engine bay area.
Aftermarket mods-wise, the old EK body has the upper hand because of the multitude of parts available (I heard the old EG/EF/EKs share similar parts, whereas the ES/FDs have transmissions and engine parts largely incompatible with the older parts used).
The using the SiR isn't really a fair comparison between cars.
It should be VTi vs VTi, LXi vs LXi.
Otherwise, you can always throw in the EP3-R (closest thing to a performance ES aside from the lacklustre 2.0L) or the FD2-R in the mix to literally shake things up.Last edited by mda; March 23rd, 2010 at 08:16 PM.

alin ang k20? di po car ang k20 sir, its "just" a honda engine but with really lots of horses.
the sir's engine b16forgot the exact engine code) will loooe by a 1/4mile to a k20. but b18's are still the more practical choice imho.
i believe a k20 is a racing engine with lots of possibilities. i think it can even reach up to 300hp or more.
try searching at youtube for k20 equipt hondas, makita mu kung anu anu sinisibak niyan sa drag race.Last edited by aejhayl17; March 25th, 2010 at 02:51 AM. Reason: di ko maintindihan! b18 ba o b16 engine ng SIR? i know it's a 1.8. or im wrong?
