^ The kid's got heart. Something that can take ADMU to another championship. I think he was a bigger factor in keeping us in the game and preluded the treys of Tiongson.

^ That is personal to me since I have a sister and aunt who are signatories to the pro-RH stance of the professors. They are both respected in their fields, they have been raised in very devout Catholic families, and they continue to faithfully practice such in their daily lives. They also work closely with civil society projects and are in touch with the needs of the poor that's why they see the glaring need to have such measures in our country today.

BTW, Ateneo has released its stand and they do have to abide with the RCC being a Catholic institution but Fr. Jett recognizes the stand of the professors who do support the bill and doesn't seem to coerce them. The statement is somewhat neutral if you ask me.

I wonder what Fr. Dacanay has to say about this. I also do hope that Fr. Bernas sticks to his statement earlier on his support for the RH legislation.

Yep Fr Jett's statement was the best he could do given the circumstances. It wasn't the witch hunt the Inquisition wanted but a call for discernment

And Fr Bernas reiterated his stand on the RH fairly recently: raissa robles | Fr. Bernas quietly writes on RH Bill on the very day that bishops lambast it

I'll never forget my Theo teacher saying that Catholics almost never get an A in his class. The last he recalled getting one was a Buddhist. He also praised my classmate who decided to shift faiths while challenging us Catholics to ask ourselves why we continue being Catholic. "Born and baptized this way" was not a valid answer.

The Ateneo will toe the church line but don't expect it to bring out the stakes and pitchforks.

Fr. Jett's piece is what one would expect from an official statement of the Ateneo's highest officer. They indeed have to conform to the Church's stand, as a Catholic university, but he does make it clear that teachers and students alike are free not to blindly agree to such positions.

As for Father D, well, there's this photo of him spreading on Facebook that quotes him saying that if he weren't a priest, he would've abandoned Catholicism, given all the sh*t priests say.

The Jesuits are quite a contrast to the Opus Dei guys who are mostly very stern against the RH bill. I also always felt that my religion isn't about what i read and preach but what i practice in my daily life, and how it affects the people around me. What I don't get is how some parties can't understand the tip toeing position of the Ateneo? Am i missing something? They seem to read it that the institution is mindlessly all out against RH.

I also saw that Father Dacanay picture.

The Opus Dei are very conservative. I was invited to visit one of their houses near Shoppersville and had to attend a mass in Latin. Monkey see monkey do tuloy hehe. The people there are very kind and soft-spoken. It was a very relaxing place.

My grand-aunt who is a nun does not see eye to eye with the Opus Dei though. Incidentally she also guides Jesuit novitiates in their discernment. I haven't asked her about her stand yet. Maybe next time when she brings down another batch of peanut brittle

My sons go to a non-Jesuit Catholic school that also has non-Catholic and foreign students. No peep about the bill in any of their readings. They concentrate on humility, simplicity and service.

I dunno if i mentioned this before... but try going to confession with an Opus Dei priest and then go to a Jesuit priest the next time... you'll really see the difference in their line of thought.
