    University official's gun license revoked

MANILA, Philippines - The vice president of AMA Computer University had his gun license revoked on Friday following an alleged attack on a gasoline station attendant in Quezon City last Sunday, which was caught on camera by a local television station, a police official said.
Charles Sullivan was ordered to immediately surrender his caliber 45 pistol at Camp Crame’s Firearms and Explosives Division after police reviewed the video aired on ABS-CBN television last July 6, purportedly showing Sullivan punching, choking, and showing his gun to gas station attendant Alfredo Gallaza, said Director German Doria of the Police Community Relations Group.
Sullivan was about to refuel his car when the altercation happened at 11 a.m. On July 5.
A police report said Sullivan allegedly “arrogantly ordered the staff to speed up filling his gas tank.”
When Gallaza told Sullivan to wait while his credit card was being verified, the suspect allegedly “angrily alighted from the vehicle, poked [his gun] and threatened the complainant…and choked and punched him on the face and chest,” the report said.
This prompted police to cancel Sullivan’s license and his permit-to-carry firearms, Doria said.
“[Sullivan] is not fit and he seems like he has a problem with his temper,” he added.
Sullivan will lose his gun privileges indefinitely, until the FED adjudication board decides he is fit to carry firearms, Doria said.
Meanwhile, Doria reminded all gun owners to keep their guns hidden when in public.
“Your guns should be kept away from the public. It should be hidden,” he added.

+1. They should have also checked on the what went wrong in the gun permit issuance - on how such a hot tempered person got a license for a gun in the first place.

I was able to watch that particular episode over at TV Patrol.

In fairness to the cops, they did arrive on the scene, na-late nga lang kasi umalis agad yung mama.

(Honestly, that Sullivan guy doesn't look like an executive. Mukhang goon nga eh, hawig ni Romy Diaz, hehehe).

Dapat sinubukan niyang gawin sa akin yung ganun 5 years ago, I would have placed a bullet between his eyes from 30 meters away.

A security guard doesn't have the authority to arrest anyone. Pero it's sheer suicide that you engage in a shootout sa loob ng isang gas station. I constantly have my gun with me pero tago sa public. Better off with just a bruised body than a dead one, right.

It's people like him that give gun owners a bad name. There were instances in my life that I got into heated arguments lalo na when I'm on the road. I always have the presence of mind na pag umiinit na ang ulo ko to put aside my gun and even the magazines under my seat or lock it away sa glove compartment baka kasi kung ano pa ang maisip ko at ma tempt kong gawin.

dapat off duty policeman ang ang i harrass nila.

Ugh! This is a little close to home dahil sa Gateway ako nagpa-park araw araw... May balita na ba sa reklamo? I sure wouldn't want to come across this guy while entering/leaving Gateway.

[SIZE="3"]Actually, as civilians, we have the right to arrest anyone caught doing a crime — even without a warrant (obviously), IIRC, it's in the Phil Consti and it's called Citizen's Arrest. Ergo, a security guard has the right to restrain and arrest an offender such as that man because it was committed in his presence. Natakot lang sya (which is stupid because he's also armed).

His duty is to secure the establishment and its occupants. He's a failure. He should be fired for being useless (also yung tga Gateway!).

Too many criminals like these have gone scot-free because of incorrect charges. WTF!

Dapat kasama ang Grave threats, Physical abuse (and/or assault) and Coercion sa mga kaso. AFAIR, hindi ito isinama based from the initial news reports.

Mga sablay din kasi with regards to SOP yung iba.

This is one of my delima why i dont carry a gun, my friends put forth arguments that "mas lalo ka nga mahinahun" when theres a highly stressed confrontation because you have a gun. Im close to buying that but not yet at the moment. Im just at the level where i still cant trust myself in owning one, added the fact that i cant imagine being locked up and not be with my family because of a lapse of judgement or if i accidentaly shoot somebody out of anger.

On the other hand its tough times and i wonder if its not necessry to own one for protections purposes especially to protect your family...until now im still undecided on this matter.

The security guard may detain a suspect pending the authorities arrival, but IMO he did the right thing in this situation. Even law enforcement officers (trained ones) dont really draw out thier guns unless they intend to use it and its always better to use cooler heads in diffusing situations like this rather than lock heads with an extremely agitated gun totting person. As saber rider said its a gas station, a gun may not be the only one to go off if a fire fight insued.

Thought of the same thing. Legal na self defense naman ito, right? Basta as soon as yung isang civilian naghawak na ng baril, any and all means of self defense puwede na natin gawin laban sa kanila?
