Traffic going northbound is bad. The ongoing road rehab/re-asphalting is also contributing to the slow down. I hope it doesn't get any worse than it already is.
There was a line headed for South Station exit last night at around 7 pm. It was flowing quite well naman, and most of those in the queue were really headed for South Station, save for a bus or two.
As I was nearing the turn off, I saw a bus turn right toward Alabang from the center lane. I think this is the way the queues should be separated. Just one bus or truck positioned in the wrong lane can block off all the Class 1 vehicles headed for South Station.

9:30 pm Tuesday night. Buses and trucks were beginning to bunch up at the Alabang exit, with the end of the line close to spilling over to the turn off. Long trucks and buses were still lining up at the lane supposedly only for South Station. No PNCC traffic officer was in sight.
PNCC, lane segregation please.

And out they came.
At 12:10 am today, many buses and long trucks spilled over to the rightmost lane intended for South Station, while queued up for Alabang. Again, no PNCC traffic enforcer was in sight. Must have gone beddy-bye already. The supposed "Exclusive to Class 1, Headed for South Station, No Swerving Lane" extended to a little past Alabang Hills southbound.
Fine, if PNCC does not want to segregate the lanes most of the day since queueing in the turnoff area is minimal, then leave it be. But when the long and large vehicles come out and fill up that area, then they should take some action and at least direct the flow accordingly. What are they waiting for, private motorists to get impatient, criss-cross queues and get involved in accidents with large, mis-positioned trucks?
Hello! Since you're charging an arm and a leg for the use of the SLT, might as well give some service back. What service are you boasting of? Your constant re-asphalting of the Alabang-Nichols stretch? That's it?

IMm29. I agree with you that the PNCC should allot two lanes for the south station and the new alabang exits. As it is (during off-peak hours), buses swerve from the left most lane to the rightmost lane with impunity. This leaves little room for rule abiding motorists who keep their lanes as the newly installed sign says. If the PNCC cannot provide traffic enforcers to keep the flow, maybe they should just create 'dedicated lanes' for vehicles going further south, vehicles exiting the south station and one for the new exit.

Yep, Radical! Either there's someone there to efficiently man that turnoff area, or they put in dedicated lanes. Took the afternoon off yesterday and was at the turnoff at around 2:15 pm. Long trucks were again on the rightmost lane slowly running toward to turnoff, with a long line of Class 1 vehicles behind them.
That "No swerving" rule is non-existent. Buses come from the left most lane and swerve toward Alabang. Cars pass the slow trucks on the right lane via the center lane, and then turn right toward South Station. These are hazards on their own. Those buses that turn right at the last minute are running at full steam, with their drivers thinking they're just driving a small car. Cars passing via the middle lane have to cut in front of the slow trucks hogging the right lane just to turn to South Station. Trucks on the right lane bottle up all the other Class 1 vehicles headed for South Station.
Perhaps if you could mandate trucks and buses from occupying the rightmost lane, and have them occupy just the center lane, then you could make the flow better, and mitigate the hazards. Mandate, meaning more than just put up the overhead signs.Last edited by IMm29; March 2nd, 2007 at 03:22 PM.

In fairness, that area is very tricky for the PNCC. They did have good intentions when they constructed the new exit. Maybe they should make some more adjustments...Heck, they should read the discussions here to get more ideas... By the way, pardon my ignorance, but the name of the new exit is "South exit?" or is that the name of the existing "Alabang exit?"

Hay naku,- we have e-pass,- pero as much as possible, iiwasan ko na ang pagpunta sa Alabang via SLEX, unless there is going to be a marked improvement in those exits.... Grabe talaga ang swerving,- nakakainis tuloy pumila sa exit lane.... Dapat ang Alabang exit ay sa second lane, while those who are using the new exit should be in the outermost lane..... This should be properly defined by PNCC....
Kaso, with this scheme, at nabara ang mga sasakyan using the Alabang exit,- one lane na lang ang going to the South (innermost lane).....
Traffic din using the West Service Road and passing thru BF Paranaque....

James Deakin had an article on one of his previous Counterflow columns in C! Magazine. He was partly ranting about the price you have to pay when you take NLEX, but then with the response of the NLEX crew to the emergency situation involving his family, he was then all praises. I wonder if SLEX can boast of the same thing, with what it's charging.
The name of the new exit is "South Station". This area just prior to Alabang and South Station is indeed quite tricky, pero andyan na yan so the best they can do is make the most of this bad situation/position. Yeah, I wish they had a look at the discussions on our board.
I'd take my chances on the expressway and South Station rather than take the West Service road. BF, well, that's another option, but most of the time, you make the call to go thru BF without knowing whether traffic past Sucat is better or much worse. For those few times that traffic is queued past Sucat, then BF is the only other alternative.
My Ford SYNC just updated itself. Anyone here knows what was updated?
