Also, during the DLSU Alumni Homecoming in La Salle Greenhills last month,- when the various DLSU School flags were displayed,- walang Mapua or Malayan doon....

Firstly, this is to set the record straight regarding Mapua's Maximum Residency Requirement (MRR) Policy:

1. MRR is not unique to Mapua. Most of the established universities and colleges have their respective MRR policies.
2. Mapua stands by its adherence to producing quality graduates by administering academic policies that would guarantee such. Implementing the MRR is one of them because the policy helps make sure that the curriculum that its graduates get is relevant.
3. The MRR policy has nothing to do with gaining more money. What is most important is the quality of graduates that will bear Mapua's name. A Mapuan is someone who makes a significant contribution to his community because he is armed with the latest and global standards of education. The student is always welcome to transfer to another school if he/she cannot adhere to its academic requirements.

Next, to address this particular incident regarding the student who posted the blog with the subject "Mapua is finished!...", please know that the said student has already coordinated with Mapua's Registrar's Office and has consequently been advised of his options.

Mapua continues to be at the forefront of excellence in education. To date, it is the only school in the Philippines and East Asia to have internationally accredited (ABET) programs. Its outcomes-based education program requires Mapua to keep itself on its toes, to constantly and consistently implement programs that would prove relevant to the industry where its graduates will engage in.

Some pills are hard to swallow, but oftentimes, they are what we need to make us better.

Inabutan pala ng MRR.... Sa UPLB, lagi kami aware sa MRR. I have a brod na batch 88 tapos inabutan ng MRR kaya repeat....

There is a hard balance between the negative publicity generated and trying to up the so-called graduate quality of a school. I know of one school in the Visayas area where they did not allow some students to graduate due to substandard academic performance as the new owners were trying to improve the quality of their graduates and performance in the boards. The result was a one-sided negative media and publicity blitz which hit the school's enrollment level the following year (which is painful to the pockets if you're the one running the school).
