Supt, 2 cops in abduction, slay of millionaire

THREE active duty policemen were implicated yesterday by the Philippine National Police in the abduction-slay of Leah Angeles Ng, the 41-year- old wife of a millionaire Filipino-Chinese businessman whose body was found by anti-kidnapping agents in an abandoned warehouse in San Pedro, Laguna, last February 23.

PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero A. Cruz Jr. identified the three as Supt. Rommel S. Miranda, the deputy chief of the Communications and Electronics Service of the Police Regional Office 7 stationed in Cebu City; and Police Officers 1 Otelio Santos Jr. and Jifford Signap, both assigned with the San Pedro Municipal Police Station in Laguna.

Miranda, a former spokesperson of the National Capital Region Police Office and a Fullbright scholar, has vehemently denied the charges against him when initially questioned by the PNP-AKG. He has vowed to answer all the accusations against him before the proper court.

However, Cruz said that Santiago, Santos and Signap were seen in closed circuit television (CCTV) footages as the persons on board Mrs. Ng’s silver Toyota Prado with the special license plates JUS 77 that was abandoned in the parking lot of the Walter Mart in Carmona, Cavite.

Several witnesses also positively identified the suspects who drove the vehicle into the parking lot.

According to the PNP spokesman, ‘the recovery of the body of Mrs. Ng who went missing since January 20 is a major breakthrough in the month-long investigation into this kidnap-slay case.’

He said that Santiago was presented before the Department of Justice for inquest proceedings on the same day when he led PNP-AKG investigators to the site where Mrs. Ng’s decomposing body was found.

“As we speak, AKG investigators assisted by forensic examiners are conducting further investigation to unearth more evidence to ensure successful prosecution of the case,” Cruz said.

PNP-AKG agents under Senior Supt. Isagani R. Nerez arrested Santiago who later led them to the abandoned warehouse at no 1430 Dulo San Vicente in San Pedro where the decomposing body of Ng was recovered 9:30 p.m. Wednesday last week.

The victim is the wife of Tommy Ng, the chief executive officer of the popular Gaisano Mall. The victim, a mother of four, is the administrator of the family-owned Gustav Trucking.

The official said that Santiago who is also involved in a small trucking business led them to the abandoned warehouse where he claimed that he and the two PO1s took the victim’s body.

Nerez said that Miranda was tagged by Santiago as the alleged ‘mastermind’ behind the abduction and killing of the victim.

Nerez said Ng was last seen alive while with the suspects at the UCC Building in Corinthian Hills, Quezon City. Her body was taken to the PNP Crime Laboratory for autopsy. An initial examination showed that the victim’s skull was believed to have been bashed with the use of a blunt instrument.

He said that they are looking into some ‘unpaid obligations’ between the suspects and the victim as the one that triggered the abduction and killing.

The abandoned silver Toyota Prado with the special plate no. JUS 77 was recovered from the parking lot of Waltermart Mall in Barangay Mabuhay, Carmona, Cavite last January 25. The vehicle provided clues to the case of the missing Leah Ng.

Mall records showed that unidentified persons left the vehicle around 2 p.m. of January 20.

Sorry to tsikoteers who are in the police force but as long as you tolerate the bad apples in your sector, the public (like me) will always treat you as crocs/crooks.

For me, each time I see a cop or cops especially at night, I feel more... not secure.hehe

Whenever I drive home at night, I intentionally avoid routes where PNP checkpoints are usually setup. (e.g. Balete Drive)
Di na baleng humaba ang biyahe ko at matrapik, basta iwas checkpoint.

kawawa ito. mukhang hindi din sasabihin yung totoong reason sa murder.

OT: i always pass by Balete Drive. wala pa akong na-encounter na check point.
