PSG set to file charges vs driver in EDSA accident

MANILA, Philippines -- The Presidential Security Group (PSG) is set to file charges against the driver of a car who tried to race against the convoy of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo Monday night, the head of the PSG said Tuesday.

Colonel Romeo Prestoza said they would file a case before the Judge Advocate General's Office against Archibald Yap Ang, the driver of the Honda Jazz (ZFS 734).

Arroyo's convoy was traveling around 8 p.m. Monday along EDSA towards Makati when Ang's vehicle raced the convoy. Prestoza said they were signaling Ang to stay away but he still overtook them.

Because of this, one of the PSG vehicles, a white Nissan Safari tilted on its side, hurting two presidential guards. They were immediately brought to the Bonifacio Hospital and then transferred to the PSG Hospital.

When Ang was finally stopped near the Victor Potenciano Hospital, he reasoned that he was in a hurry.

Puro ka kasi kayabangan!! buti nga sayo Honda Jazz driver. May ibang paraan naman para maunahan niya yan pero huwag ka makipag gitgitan sa convoy. Inutil!!!

IIRC, it is against the law to cut into the Presidential convoy. That was one stupid driver, pati PSG hindi sinasanto, eh balasubas ding magmaneho yung nga yun.

I also watched the report on QTV, and it seems naghabulan pa yung Patrol at Jazz, at parehong nagka-cut into each other's path. Aba, una pang tumagilid yung Patrol!

Serves them both right. About time a PSG member got his comeuppance, kahit may former PMA classmate akong taga PSG HHSB.

Although ung nagyare sa PSG, may times kse na minsan nakakatakot talga ung convoy nila. Baka nakarma na din. Pero, hope they get well soon.

As for the Honda Jazz driver, mali yung ginawa nya kahit emergency. Maganda makuwa din nten ung side nya.

Goes to show that even a civilian can ruin the presidential convoy. That alone has zero threat, what more kung suicide bomber or something (you never know).

Why is the case being filed with the Judge Advocate General(JAG)? If he is civilian it should go to a civilian court, AFAIK JAG is for court martials of military personnel.

If every other car and their grandmother wasn't a convoy with lights in the Philippines maybe the Presidential convoy would have been respected. The guy can always say the Presidential convoy looks like others that do the same thing to bring kids to school. Just look at the Goon Squad Forum and see all those threads. Anyways, what he did was still stupid and the PSG was even dumber because a Jazz manage to break their convoy security. Suicide bomber = dead President.

Eto pa.. Kse ngayon napansin ko na tama nga, nde mo na malaman kung emergency ba talga ung mga wang wang na yan or kung ano man yan or kung sino sila. E kse kahit anong sasakyan meron kahit nga scooter may wangwang.

If, gagawan nila nang paraan para ma parusahan ung mga gumagamit nyan at ma minimize lang talga na. For official use only, baka sure na tatabi agad lahat kse alam nila na official lang gumagamit talga nun.

Anyhow, no matter how much I also dislike GMA, getting in her convoy's way is not on my list. Delikado. Swerte nung Jazz driver hindi nga siya binaril.

Suwerte nung driver nung jazz at di siya binaril nung PSG. They have all the reason to shoot the car. Malay ba nila kung bigla na lang maglabas ng mahaba yung nakasakay at jazz at ratratin yung presidential convoy. Kayabangan na ang karerahin ang convoy ng pinakamataas na tao sa Pilipinas.

That's the problem in this country... with so many "wannabes" having "police" escorts nowadays, who will take the President's convoy seriously? Especially if they drive like they rule the road... like some convoys composed completely of civilian vehicles, who act as if they're escorting God himself.

It'll be interesting to see how this case pans out. No doubt the guy is guilty, but the publicity from it might point the media's eye towards abusive "convoys".
