Simple dinner? What a stupid excuse. There are no "simple" dinners at Le Cirque.

    goon squad na agad?

pgma is the head of state of a fairly large nation... where do y'all want her to eat? piggly wiggly's? mcdonalds? come on... we're getting angry because a dozen elected officials went out to dinner in a fancy restaurant, big deal. we elected them. in fact, we went to people power to seat GMA.

yeah yeah yeah that talk about how many mouths that money would have fed... bullshit. if we all follow that analogy, maybe we should sell our hondas and donate the money to charity.

i disagree with pgma on most issues, but the president is the president. would y'all prefer our president to be like the president in Lord of War, a murderer and a maniac? pgma may not be like obama, but she's a whole lot better than erap, you know. let her eat cake in the fanciest restaurants... how the nation treats its leaders shows the quality of its people

I will disagree with you on this sir because I did not believe that no taxpayers money is involved esp. coming from a congressman.

They can always treat themselves to this fancy restaurant and splurge themselves till kingdom come.....as private citizens.

But as a public official in this poor country of ours, such acts should be tempered with moderation.

Leading by example should be the norm.

First of all, the Philippines is NOT a fairly large nation. Physically, we occupy an area comparable to many countries out there only because our country is composed of many islands, that if coalesced, would only occupy a small area. Demographically and politically, we are a third world country.

Secondly, we are not implying that PGMA and her cohort eat at fastfoods while in the US. Of course, she needs to dine at more respectable restaurants that fit her stature. However, a president of the Philippines is NOT a king/queen, and, as the poster above has mentioned, she is a public servant, and needs to lead by example, and lavish acts such as this should be refrained from till they are out of office.

Third, although PGMA is not a murderer and maniac as you suggested (although she has been accused of being responsible for the great rise in extrajudicial killings in the Phils.), it doesn't mean that we should be satisfied with that and let her do what she wants, when she wants. A lesser evil is still an evil.

Lastly, and this is the only thing I would agree with you, is that "how the nation treats its leaders shows the quality of its people". The fact that we are concerned about our country and would point out the inadequacies, misdeeds, and wrongdoings of our public officials would say a lot about the "quality" of the Filipino people. We have gone a long way since Marcos and it shows that we have grown up as a nation and are not complacent and remiss of our duties as concerned citizens.

Isnt it that $20,000 for just a dinner is too much?

So ibig sabihin na kapag presidente ka na eh ok lang gumastos ng ganoong kalaki sa isang hapunan lang?

Just cant find the logic behind spending too much for a dinner just because you are a president.

Peace ah. No intention of starting a fight. Just wondering why? And its just my IMHO.

You do not spend a million pesos for a meal, not when your people live like this...

The money spent at Le Cirque could have housed 5 of the families in this slum area and would have changed their lives forever.

Meanwhile, what happened to the caviar and champagne that the Greedy ELF ingested? Probably floating by this very same river.

This is precisely why the country is poor.
