In da Philippines also,you see where our taxes go-to the pockets of Corrupt politicos, overpriced or ghost projects, substandard public works, and lots of subsidies and rule bending to accomodate squatters at the expense of taxpayers.

We all see where our taxes go but collectively, we don't do enough to force real change.

You forgot to mention the following:

Your taxes go to printing tarps that bear the politicians' names and faces, and a small message saying "congratulations to the graduating batch of 2010, etc."
Your taxes go to paying for the SUVs and wangwangs that bully their way through the streets.
Your taxes go to paying for those monograms of mayors that are splattered on every fence and pedestrian overpass (e.g. (e) -- pasig, SB -- Q.C., β -- makati, BF -- everywhere).
Whatever is left after the above, yon yung ginagamit for us. Kaya ayan, pangit yung infrastructure at basic services.
