DO NOT Ask for Directions in Manila and Pasay!!!

This happened two days ago to Cecile Van Straten, one of the more famous Bloggers:

Traffic was bad in Manila, but moving. Somewhere along Recto, our driver felt lost and rolled down the window to ask directions from a traffic enforcer. Instead of helping us, the traffic enforcer told him to pull over and started to scold him about some traffic violation we were not aware of.
Our driver tried to reason calmly as the traffic enforcer continued to yell and power trip.
Of course we are well aware he could be calmed down by some kind of bribe money, which I hate.
So I pulled out my Press ID and told him I was covering an event at this place and I was going to be late.
Upon seeing my Press ID, the traffic enforcer changed his voice, gave us directions and let us go.A few minutes later, the same thing happened on Rizal Avenue. Our driver felt lost, rolled down the window to ask help from a traffic enforcer. I was shocked when instead of helping us, he told us to pull over again.
He started to scold my driver in a way that made me angry. So I pulled out my Press ID and told him the same thing, that we were going to be late for an event. But seeing my ID only made his voice louder, and I lost it.
I told him we had not violated any traffic law, and I can’t believe he is the second guy doing this to us in the same area. I told him I would take his picture and told him, “Huwag kang rumaket.”I was kind of scared but more angry about the bribe situation. I just find it ridiculous that these people are supposed to help us, and making us pull over to scream at us really just worsens the traffic.
As our voices got louder, I think he realized he wasn’t gonna get any bribe money from me. Finally I said good bye to him, and he said the same thing! Thank God it was over, and we left.

I onced stopped for directions in Pasay and the same thing happened to me. I thought it was a fluke until I read the above.

No matter how much you plan your trip, sometimes you still have to ask directions.

i am not defending them, please read between the lines. you plan not to commit errors, if you commit errors after planning then you plan it the wrong way. in most cases, ignorance is not an excuse.

I think there's a problem with your logic. In life, you cannot anticipate all events.

There are things that are beyond planning. Kung ganun lang di walang namamatay sa gera.

Just read on D-Day of WW2. One of the best planned events of history, dami din errors. Daming namatay na Americans and British.

In this case, and advise mo "Change the Driver", kasi hindi niya kabisado yung streets ng Recto? Is that even logical?

This is getting nowhere and this will be my last post on your thread. I do not want to go below your level of thinking. Another tip for you, hr people hire employee to provide solution to the problem not the other way around. I will explain this so you will understand better, cecile should hire a driver who knows the places she often visit to avoid having problems such as the recent incident.

There was no indication na that place was one that she visits often.
Hinde naman din indicated na company driver yun so I don't know where your HR bit came from. I get it what you're trying to say but I don't know why you said that way. And kung Family driver naman yan, most of us just screen for capacity to drive well and attitude, hinde naman ako magtatanong ng "Kung pupunta tayo sa *so and so unfamiliar location* kaya mo ba akong ihatid duon?".

Kahit anong plan plan pa, things will/may go wrong. Whenever I go to unfamiliar places I have a planned route, a map, have google maps ready, and a small note of key streets/landmarks to look for but I still/have gotten lost. Kaya lang I don't like to ask for help so I just backtrack na lang.
I respect the driver for asking for help instead trying to "wing it". Wala naman masama mag tanong.

Anyways, I don't get your post as I'd had nothing to help about the problem. Hinde naman problema yung naligaw e but yung mga TEs na trying to impose violations on you just because you're asking directions.

Anyways, bahala na. I was just confused by your post and replies.


To the topic at hand; I've ask for directions from TEs before sa Manila, never pa naman ako naka-experience nyan. Baka namimili ng lolokohin?

Cecile did mention that she rarely goes to that side of Manila, so she should get a new driver who knows the Recto area?

If I have to go somewhere unfamiliar within Metro Manila, I consult my map first. If it's somewhere out of town, I Google it. O kaya magtanong sa tsikot.com.

Pag naligaw na ako, saka ako maghahanap ng mapagtatanungan, madalas mga tricycle driver. I have never dared to ask a traffic enforcer for directions.

sa tingin ko din mali talaga yung anak ni inday badiday :D kung talaga ngang tumigil sya sa gitna ng road at saka nya tatanungin yung TE, basta sa moving traffic, wag na lang huminto at magtanong.

Ako kasi naghahanap ng parking like gas station nga or restaurant at saka magtatanong.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question. Anyway, I need your opinion fellow tsikoteers regarding this matter. I recently resigned from my company and they are forcing me to pay the cash bond and render 30 days grace period. I am willing to pay the bond which I believe that my back pay is sufficient enough to pay off the bond. My question is will the company can still sue me and ask for damages for not complying with the 30 notice. I really need your help guys specially those who are experts in labor laws. For additional info I'm a sales person of our company. TIA
