As stated by many earlier, using credit cards and online banking is far more secure than withdrawing cash from banks or ATMs. If you have a large transaction (e.g. buying a car), you should issue a check or if the seller is selling his second hand car, get a manager's check. A funds transfer is also doable but the fees the banks charge could be hefty. Well, what price for security.

I know a bank that had cell phone jammers installed but the local telcos filed an injunction to have the jammers disabled. We should be raising our beef with the telcos and not the banks.

One of the things I can share with you if you need to withdraw cash from ATMs is to use the ATM of a bank branch that is well lighted, with security guards in and outside the branch, parking that's in the basement or next to the outside premises security guards. Malls are safe places also to withdraw from ATMs because the getaway is going to be difficult for the bad guys.

You'll see many banks where the security guard is INSIDE THE BRANCH. Unable to help you if you run into trouble with the bad guys. Some only have 1 guard, others 2 at most. With banks cutting cost, expect security in these branch locations to be almost nil.

Next time you do visit an ATM check these things I pointed out.

Be safe people.

Client killed after making withdrawal from bank

Manila, Philippines--A bank client was killed while his father was seriously injured after they were waylaid by robbers riding in tandem on board a motorcycle Friday afternoon.

The pair were in their car and had stopped for a refill at a gasoline station where they were ambushed as soon as they stepped out of a bank along Tomas Morato Avenue in Quezon City.

Supt.Edgardo Pamittan, commander of Quezon City Police District-Station 11 identified the fatality as Rolly Humangit, 38.
His father, Romeo, 64, was later brought to a hospital where he is being treated for gunshot wounds.

Pamittan said the Humangits had just withdrawn around P130,000 from a Metrobank branch and decided to pass by a Shell station at the corner of E. Rodriguez Avenue for gasoline.

One of the suspects suddenly appeared and immediately fired at the victims.

The robbers then grabbed the money the victims were carrying.

The police official told reporters that the suspects, whom he identified as Pedro de Leon and Ricky Cervantes, were arrested along Betty Go-Belmonte Street at the corner of Aurora Boulevard onboard their motorcycle, a few blocks away from the crime scene.

He added that the suspects were flagged down during a police dragnet implemented immediately after the attack.

The suspects were positively identified by the older Humangit and other witnesses gathered at the gasoline station where the attack took place, according to the police official.

De Leon was carrying an unlicensed 9-mm pistol when he was frisked by police, he added.

The money withdrawn from a teller at the bank, however, was not recovered.

Pamittan said the P130,000 could have been passed on to other members of the robbery group before the two suspects were apprehended.

The police official added that during questioning, the suspects denied involvement in the incident, despite the fact that they were positively identified by the victim as well as other witnesses.

yup online banking i must say is the safest
yeah, and maybe its a lil message that God wants us to know and that is
"to quickly adapt to technology and maximize its use, that includes you old people"

Online banking, such as wire transfer is much safer for our lives and money.

And if one do really need to deposit big amounts, like 2 million- he can call the bank to pick the money up via armored truck. Be smart, research for better ways.

Eto na naman....

Sunday, June 1, 2008 At least four armed men allegedly robbed four employees of a soft drink distribution firm in Tondo, Manila of P1.7 million they were about to deposit in a bank yesterday afternoon.
The Manila Police District’s theft and robbery section identified the employees as cashier Susan Millado, 30; collector Mathenzan Galleon; driver Alex Gawilan; and helper Christopher Liwanag. They work for the Everything Refresh Distributor.
The employees said they had just finished collecting money from their outlet stores at around 2:50 p.m. and were on their way to a Banco de Oro branch at a mall in San Lazaro, Manila.
They said they were cruising along Dagupan street near Raxabago street in a Toyota Revo when armed men on two motorcycles blocked their path and forced them to hand over the money, which was contained in a duffle bag. – Evelyn Macairan
my advice is the same as the latter above

Not to be biased on metrobanks but the main reason I see why puro MBTC(metrobanks) is because they are the 2nd largest banks in our country. Same reason with BDO, they are the 1st.
My point is that, they (the robbers) have inside contacts of employees mostly accountants in random banks, its just coincidence metrobank because there are more employees and they have branches all over the NCR at least. Bihira sa BDO cos recently lang sila na pass by ang MBTC. Before SM took BDO, MBTC was no.1. That, and probably has to do with the management of their employees and or security operating procedures.

Same goes with our National Police, and MMDA

I dunno. My instinct's assessment of this tells me I'm right and 99% of the time, it doesn't fail me. I get into trouble whenever I go against it.

Whatever happens, I've warned my friends and family about these incidents long time ago and emphasized it again with a "gee, I hate it when I'm always right" when it happened again not too long ago somewhere in Manila.

Needless to say, we all closed our accounts long before.

statistic wise there's a larger chance may tipper in MBTC since they are one of the top 3 largest banks in the country, so yeah you're partly right but I'm just saying its not just metrobank but also other banks..

Its like saying call center people are all horny animals since they have lots of scandals, when in fact its because its a booming industry and that they hire a lot of employees there, are the reasons why they have lots of scandals. Its statistics
