    Ateneo student kidnapped on campus

MANILA, Philippines – A college student of the Ateneo de Manila University was kidnapped in the university's parking lot in Loyola Heights, Quezon City, early evening Thursday, November 21. She was released in less than 24 hours.

The kidnapping was confirmed by Ateneo Vice President for Administration Fr Nemesio Que, SJ, in a statement dated November 29 and posted on the school website on Monday, December 2.

The student was held hostage in her own car at around 6:30 pm Thursday by several men, according to a source privy to the ongoing police probe. The men put her at the back seat and covered her face with a black bonnet. (Editor's note: We are withholding the identity of the victim.)

The group contacted the victim's family at about 7 pm to ask for ransom. Negotiations happened throughout the night in the car, the source said, with the suspects even taking drugs while sorting out the ransom payment with the family on the phone.

The source told Rappler that the student's family sought the help of policemen who were able to monitor the suspects' and their victim's location by tracking their cell phone signals.

The suspects eventually left her alone in the car – which seemed to have overheated – at around 2:55 am Friday, November 22, near a Caltex station along Manggahan in Pasig City. The kidnappers took with them the student's phone, earrings, watch, and money.

They ran away without ransom, the source said, and "didn't touch" the victim.

The student was debriefed by the government's Anti-Kidnapping Group after the incident, and by a university counselor when she returned to school.

Father Que said: "Further to the statement released by my office last Friday, 23 November, based on our initial findings, a kidnapping incident, involving a student of the Loyola Schools, occurred last Thursday, 21 November 2013, between 6-6:30 pm in the North Car Park of the Loyola Heights Campus."

He assured the university community "that the student was released, unharmed, and that no ransom was paid." The student has also "returned to the campus and now attends class."

Que's statement did not provide other details.

    Tighten security

Que said the university's security office is putting in place "immediate and short-term measures while studying more long-term policies."

    The short-term measures include:

setting up additional lighting and deployment of more roving guards in parking areas
enforcement of stricter rules in the entry and exit of people and vehicles on campus
closure of alternate entry points around the campus
He also urged the school community to fully cooperate with the implementation of these additional measures, and to report any suspicious characters or behavior on campus.

The incident comes 2 years after the university changed its security agency.

In 2011, Ateneo replaced its security agency of 9 years after a bidding process won by a new agency. Student publication The GUIDON reported that the move divided the community then. – with reports from Apa Agbayani/Rappler.com

This reminds me of the wave of kidnappings before that targeted the Chinese community back in the 90's. Could this be a random incident?

^ Based on the memo, it looks like yung mga small time gangs and not your highly placed and highly connected military-politico.... er.... KFR groups.

Damn i remember the 90s. I had a batchmate who was kidnapped also, and the family of my Fil-Chi na kababatas were subject to KFR threat reports so hindi kami makalaro sa labas ng bahay. If ever we were allowed to go out, lagi sila may security (3-door box type MK Patrol w bullbars pa ang gamit). Bad trip talaga.

^seems like it nga. Hindi nakakuha nang ransom eh. OS mahina pa. Buti naman walang masamang nangyari sa student at hindi malaki damage.

    Nagpalit na pala nang agency.

Buti nga at nakipagtulungan ung Telecommunication Company (hindi sinabi kung smart/sun o globe) to use the gsm signals to triangulate the approximate location of the kidnappers.

im using the unit from goodhand88, ung cdrking asa website lang nila pero sa store wala pa ako nakita.

ManilaBlock is right. The one I use can be commanded to cut the vehicle's engine and SMS you the location using longitude and latitude so you'd know where it is. The only drawback is, the unit can be obvious when you know what to look for.

Bistado na kami ni K.I.L.L. na meron kami naka-install hehehe......but its worth sharing, its a unit you wish you dont need to use other than locate your partner when you are in the tamang hinila mood.

'Kidnap' of Ateneo student did not happen, says QC police chief

MANILA - Chief Superintendent Richard Albano, Quezon City Police District director, on Wednesday denied that the reported kidnapping of a 20-year-old student last month inside the Quezon City campus of the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) happened.

In an interview over KATROPA Radio-DWDD, Albano said both the parents of the supposed victim and the police Anti-Kidnapping Group agreed that no kidnapping took place.

He explained that based on police records, the parents reported the incident to the local police on the evening of November 21, the same day the alleged incident took place.

The family supposedly received a ransom demand of P250,000 in exchange for the student’s release.

However, the victim arrived home the next day, even if the parents failed to pay for the ransom demand.

“There is no case, none at all,” Albano said.

The Quezon City police made the clarification after Ateneo confirmed the report and vowed to tighten its security.

In its November 29 statement, Ateneo said that based on initial findings, the kidnapping incident “involving a student of the Loyola schools” occurred on the 21st “between 6 and 6:30 p.m.” in the North Car Park of the Loyola Heights campus.”

Apparently mauubos na gas ng sasakyan kaya pinakawala na ung estudyante ng ateneo. From kidnapping to holdap na lang nangyari. Mr. Mata apparently turned his cellphone to airplane mode to buy time against the 'kidnappers' para hindi ma contact.
