    yah. it's not even turbocharged.

imho, car commercials tend to emphasize the "image" of the car; e.g. this car is cool, this commercial has classy music in the background, so the car is classy, etc. mas maappreciate ko pa if they showed how many people can fit in the car, how much boot space it has, how the dash is well organized, etc.

I like the Hyundai Tucson ad which appeared in ESPN....yung may-ari ng Tucs nagbabasa ng dyaryo, then nauhaw so kumuha ng tubig kaso parang type nya malamig na tubig. Isn't that cool? In a real sense of the word.

This amazes me...the car ads in the Philippines are generally bad...again i stress generally. Like most of the ads anyway. It is the sad state of the industry. If it were any good why don't they win awards outside. Unlike the Ford Ranger ad "King Kong" of Thailand from JWT it was clear in showing how ford was built tough. For that it won many awards including probably a cannes lions.
The ads here are generally fluff and truly good ones are far and few in-between. Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore...and now even Indonesia with its Nissan X Trail ad getting a cannes shortlist are making headway in the advertising field.
Local advertising falls behind its neighbors...sorry guys but that is merely a fact. The car ads play people on the price game and...duh...a "beauty shot of a car" check Adsofheworld.com or canneslions.com and see really good car advertising

My thought on local car ads? No better than aga mulach peddling medicine. BAD. RETCH!

to paraphrase a famous advertiser - "You can tell the level of sophistication of a society by the quality of their ads."

the key is for marketers and advertisers to be brave. Not to follow the pack. Great ads are not made from playing safe!

Ano ang mga comments niyo about the ad itself (not the vehicle being advertised).

    Here are some of mine:

*Toyota Innova TV ad: The ad is so boring. Anong market ba ang target ng Innova? The theme song really sucks. And what kind of limbo do you actually drive the Innova in? Do spotlights really shine out from the ground as you drive by. Looking back, I even prefer the green aliens used in the REVO ads rather than this crappy production

*Mitsubishi (corporate) "It's my Life": Now this ad I really like. It doesn't focus on a single vehicle. It sells the whole Mitsubishi lifestyle. The song rocks and the camera work was very nice. Actually makes me feel good that I drive a Mitsubishi.

*Mitsubishi Adventure "Parokya ni Edgar" and "Your Life, Your Adventure": Again these ads are very funky and youth oriented. Not only selling the vehicle but also a lifestyle. Very simple yet gets the message across. And they're fun to watch.

*Nissan Patrol 4x4 (print ad) "Stop at Nothing": Another very simple ad. Projecting an image of strength and the ability to conquer all kinds of terrain in an SUV that is legendary for its off-road ability.

*Chevy Lumina (print ad): A black and white ad saying the "Chaffeur" was driving the Lumina and they got to the hospital just in time for his pregnant wife to deliver. The ad strikes me as trying to appeal to people wealty enough not to drive themselves but still you enough to get pregnant. Maybe they were shying away from the 'grandad' image associted with the Buick (from which this car was based on).
Innova- You said it BOOOOORING...caters to the lowest common denominator...a snail...who thought of it should be shot. Or better yet reincarnated into a ...*shudder* Innova..

Mitsubushi corporate - Yawn...jingle based ads are so last three decades ago. You like the jingle not the brand...that's how it works...just as good as Datu Puti "Sakto..."

Mitsubishi Adventure - Give me a break...while the parokya guys are my friends...why don't we just join in the bandwagon of celeb endorsers...they do even AMA,,,and it still doesn't mean I want to go to school there...much less be seen in a Mitsubishi...oh yeah and the world all agree that pun advertising is the lowest form of advertising ever...choose your adventure

Nissan Patrol - Give me a break...check out real ads at adsoftheworld.com and compare them to the fodder we are handed out here

Chevy - haven't seen this but will bet it is a TVC that follows the usual formula...check canneslions.com and see real good ads...

    The ads that I like:

Ford Ranger Billboard Ad... the one with the "Just another hump in the road".

Ford Focus TV Ad... the one with the yellow Focus doing a rally.

That is a good choice. From JWT. or the other agency they work with. They are trying to push the envelope in as far as advertising is concerned. A brave team with a brave client. That is the hallmark of ford in the region.

But that is not just the point...Now what about truth in advertising? Doesn't saying it can do impossible things actually mean it is a "lie". Diba deceiving the consumer yan...what you just pointed out is that consumers are smarter than marketers and advertisers think. You saw through the BS. That means the advertiser actually thinks lowly of the consumer if they think they can pass on BS and think the consumer believes it. Now as you noted you knew it was BS...kaya walang na-denggoy kundi and markteter ng ad agency niya because the agency made the marketer waste so much money on an Ad which people will see as obvious BS...so the real waste wasnt just the car that was trashed kundi pati na rin money ng marketer...diba?

the jumping Isuzu also reminds me of the Innova Billboard Ad where it took off also in a jump. hehe.

speaking of impossible ads... there's this Ford Ranger TV ad where they were racing against a truck... the Ranger pulls away but the truck driver was surprised that the Ranger was also pulling a container van.

    yup

-ang HONDA, generally, madrama when it comes to their advertising, una teasers muna, tapos sasabihin kung kelan simulcasting ng commercial sabay sabay sa ibang channel. they did this with the launching of the EK Civic and 1st gen City.
    ngayun less fab na.
-zoom-zoom ad for the Mazda3 and Mazda6 are not that good, too fast and doesnt seem to catch my attention... kaya ko lang pinapanood kase alam ko Mazda3/6 ad sya.
-new Lancer/grandis ad mukhang sa aussie ang setting. OK lang. not that appealing. mas Ok pa ads dun sa adventure at 02 (pizza) Lancer.
    -Ford Lynx has a nice ad[(gen1) 1998].
-Honda City (gen2)-elevation by U2 ang kanta but the commercial is boring.
-Honda Accord (94) nasa parang malaking seesaw tapos balance nung tumungtong yung Accord.
